So they're going after Jack, KZEP, and KONO. Me thinks the format wheel hasn't quit spinning.

I received a press release from Virgil Thompson.... the format wheel has stopped.

All in all I hope this can finally be something that Cox radio can find success on when it comes to 106.7

The New X106-7 World Class Rock Rocks the Airwaves
San Antonio– April 5, 2010 – The New “X106-7 World Class Rock” makes its debut today in San Antonio, Texas and will feature the best rock music from the past 40 years and today. The new Rock format replaces the previous News/Talk format. Superstar artists such as U2, The Rolling Stones, Coldplay, Eric Clapton, Kings of Leon, Bruce Springsteen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Police, Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, Bob Seger, REM, Boston, Talking Heads, and Bob Marley will be featured among many others.

The station kicks-off with 10,000 songs COMMERCIAL FREE.

“In San Antonio we now have a home for these great artists that our own 99.5 KISS Radio made famous,” Cox Media Group Market Manager/VP Programming Virgil Thompson said. “KISS originally played these superstars and made them familiar. The New X106-7 is for the discriminating rock fan that appreciates quality music, loves the great classics, but also has a passion for the music of today. World Class Rock means quality rock music presented in an intelligent manner without silly pop songs or rock that’s too heavy. We think a lot of people will discover a new favorite radio station when they hear X106-7.”

The station will also have a strong presence with social media via its own Website (www. x1067fm.com), Facebook, and Twitter. “This will be a station that listens to, and interacts with, its audience. X-106-7 will play what the audience wants to hear,” Thompson added.

Thanks Dom. I was afraid what I was listening to was X1067. What a big friggin' disappointment.

I think this has the potential to really hurt Jack. Should be interesting how they react (and of course they shouldn't, but they will). Rock tends to do well in PPM markets.

SUCCESS is as much a part of 106.7s destiny as it is part of 95.1's.

The are the guys at the front lines, sent in to protect the Big Guns at the rear at whatever the cost.

SUCCESS will only come to either one by default and only in the case that a programing team falls asleep before they kill their forward motion.

Radio, you got to love it to stay in it !

Funny, I was just listening to KZEP the other day and was struck by how little added value that the inane patter of the jock was bringing to the product. Considering that some of KZEP's dayparts are known as "Shut Up and Rock" time, apparently they're aware of the audiences lack of interest in jock patter.

IMHO, a Jack-style Classic Rock format makes a lot of sense.

The audience for this stuff knows what it likes and isn't particularly interested in knowing that the song they're listening to is on an album that was released 31 years ago next week.

I agree. Jack is still doing very well according to PPM however with the addition of PPM to Univision and now the flip to 106.7 the success of Jack may change. Time will tell.

Wow people are pissed.

I am reading some of the comments made on 106.7 Mystery facebook page.

I'd give this a year before we are all back on here guessing a new format on 106.7.

Lol, so hilarious, but true. I believe there are other stations in SA like this already.

There's a lot bashing on their facebook page. LMAO!!!!

This party will be over in mid 2011 or possibly sooner depending on the PPM's and advertisers.
