While I was in Central Texas I heard the change at 93.3, They were saying they had moved 107.1's format to 93.3 and that 107.1 would be gone on Nov 30 so is 107.1 going dark or to another format?

1.) 107.1 puts a very good signal into central and south austin where a good core of KGSR's listenership resides. However, although weaker, the signal is still decent in the north and northwest suburbs of Austin.
2.) It is true the 93.3 signal is vastly superior in coverage to 107.1, but we must take a look at WHERE that coverage is. The 93.3 tower is located in a rural area nearly 40 miles northwest of downtown/central austin. The vast majority of the 93.3 signal blankets rural areas of central Texas where country music is likely the dominant interest. The rural parts of central Texas are not likely to have a great amount of interest in receiving KGSR's music in the first place.
3.) The 93.3 signal does NOT cover central and south Austin as well as 107.1 did. There are intermittant bleed issues that are caused by the 100,000 watt KLBJ at 93.7 which is located within 5-7 miles of a good chunk of the core audience. Although I wouldn't envision KGSR LOOSING listeners because of it, the clarity clearly will not be as good especially on smaller household radios.
4.) I am surprised that the KGSR signal was not moved to 105.9 instead. Although less powerful than 93.3, it is a city grade signal that 107.1 never had. It clearly hits all of metro austin which contain the population most likely to have interest in the station.
Oh well, guess we'll see what happens.

The one day-old La Zeta already has a better online presence than the nearly month old "Big Talker." LOL!
Good job Emmis, you are one of the most competent operators in the business.
