107.1 La Zeta

While I was in Central Texas I heard the change at 93.3, They were saying they had moved 107.1's format to 93.3 and that 107.1 would be gone on Nov 30 so is 107.1 going dark or to another format?

Re: 107.1

They just announced on their audio stream that 107.1 will officially change to Spanish language programming as of 5:00 PM today.

Re: 107.1

Unfortunately I am not sure it was the best decision to put KGSR on 93.3 FM. Here are some of my reasons--

1.) 107.1 puts a very good signal into central and south austin where a good core of KGSR's listenership resides. However, although weaker, the signal is still decent in the north and northwest suburbs of Austin.

2.) It is true the 93.3 signal is vastly superior in coverage to 107.1, but we must take a look at WHERE that coverage is. The 93.3 tower is located in a rural area nearly 40 miles northwest of downtown/central austin. The vast majority of the 93.3 signal blankets rural areas of central Texas where country music is likely the dominant interest. The rural parts of central Texas are not likely to have a great amount of interest in receiving KGSR's music in the first place.

3.) The 93.3 signal does NOT cover central and south Austin as well as 107.1 did. There are intermittant bleed issues that are caused by the 100,000 watt KLBJ at 93.7 which is located within 5-7 miles of a good chunk of the core audience. Although I wouldn't envision KGSR LOOSING listeners because of it, the clarity clearly will not be as good especially on smaller household radios.

4.) I am surprised that the KGSR signal was not moved to 105.9 instead. Although less powerful than 93.3, it is a city grade signal that 107.1 never had. It clearly hits all of metro austin which contain the population most likely to have interest in the station.

Oh well, guess we'll see what happens.

105.9 is owned by Clear Channel. Emmis owns KGSR, not Clear Channel, so 105.9 is not an option.

I haven't been to Austin in a year or two, but unless there has been a drastic change...most of the minority populations are concentrated on the east and south sides:

The AAA format is about as white as you can get in appeal...it has very little appeal among ethnic groups. Putting a Spanish-language format on 107.1 that is strong over areas where Hispanics are concentrated and putting the AAA format on a signal that strongly covers the northwest side may make sense based on the populations.

seriously???
You can't wish harm on anyone can you?

ha ha why you say that? I learned a long time ago to not make enemies in this business.

however... i did say something else but later edited it with just "seriously???"

I just pointed out in my initial post that I think in my opinion that the format is garbage. That is just my opinion though. I am no one special.

however I am not a fool and also acknowledge that there just might be a reason why 3298749283047 stations have flipped to it. do i like it? no. but is it what is hot right now? unfortuneatly yes.

Re: 107.1

What a small pie they will be programming to, now that there are 2 more signals switching to that as well in the coming weeks.

que malo.

There's nothing wrong with tooting your own horn, but maybe waiting more than 24 minutes would be a good idea.

Tooting "my horn"? ??? I'm just wishing Mr Santos and the staff that works THERE well, what's wrong with that? ???

La Zeta's new website is now up http://1071lazeta.com, streaming and all. As always, Emmis's branding of station looks really good. Also revealed are the new call letters: KLZT. The on-air presentation sounds quite good too.

The one day-old La Zeta already has a better online presence than the nearly month old "Big Talker." LOL!

Good job Emmis, you are one of the most competent operators in the business.

You have every right to say what you said. I take no issue with it.

Thanks for sharing. I looked for this with no luck... I'm already pretty impressed after only fifteen minutes of listening. Not to mention how
fast they were able to get their audio streaming up!

I swear at 3:00pm today I heard 107.1 ID as KGSR Bastrop-Austin and switched over in time to hear 93.3 ID as KGSR Cedar Park-Austin.
