107.1 moving to the metro??

any truth to the rumor that 107.1 WTSH got approval to move its tower from kingston to cartersville? that would make that signal a contender inside the metro, at least on the northside.

You can view the signal by searching on wtsh at radio-locator.com

It will be somewhat of a contender in the far northwestern burbs, but hardly a metro contender, overall.

Expect it to be obliterated during weather/atmospheric events.

Not only will 107.1 be moving closer to the metro, but it is going to be upgraded to 100kw. The company that owns it now will have to sell. They have no idea how to fun a major-market station. And with a 100kw stick just 35 miles north of the city, it will be a metro station.

WTSH (South 107) is using Atlanta in its legal ID now.

The station owned by Southern Broadcasting, along with WRGA/WSRM and WQTU (Q102).

I suspect the whole idea of the upgrade is to sell the station, but I think they are doing it on their own to increase the sale price. Southern can't operate 107.1 from Rome unless they open an Atlanta sales office. Rome is a toll call from the Atlanta area.

As for after the sale, I suspect that the country format will move to WSRM 95.3 (why the station is a WRGA simulcast, it is just temporary). I don't see them killing Q102, especially after the demise of K98 to Georgia Public Broadcasting.

Where is info about an upgrade to 100Kw?? Nothing filed so far....
There was an app filed about 6 months ago to move the tower north and go C-1 which would have allowed 100 Kw operation maximum. But they ran into problems and withdrew the application.
They are NOT licensed to Atlanta (at least according to the FCC database)and can NOT use Atlanta as the legal ID city of license. They can mention it AFTER Rockmart, but not before.

I know that. The legal ID they are using is "WTSH-FM Rockmart/Rome/Atlanta". After the city of license, you can mention any other areas you serve.
