107.3 In Corpus Gets Jake-d!!!

Midnight last night brings 1073The X in Corpus Christi to a close. It's now 107-3 Jake FM. This follows an exodus of 2 jocks last week. Dimebag Dave remains (I would suspect as a new persona.)

Sounds like a pretty interesting playlist. Not too many places where you'll hear ELO and Roy Orbison back to back. I wish "Jake" was on a full power station. No chance of hearing it down here in South Padre/Port Isabel without some serious tropo.

P.S. I take it they're going jockless?
Edited by Smittian on 06/30/05 07:52 PM.

They and most Convergent Broadcasting station are jockless. 2 dj's. One for M-F middays and afternoons is all they have (both also syndicate mornings). I wonder how sister stations Planet and Classic Rock are going to deal with this, since both stations play some type of "variety." Well I guess you have C101 or 104.5 for rock now CCians.

I checked out their website and by the artists listed, it seems as if they are going after KMXR's (Oldies 93.9) audience. It appears to be an oldies station with some 80's thrown in. The results should be interesting, seeing how Corpus Christi is one of the few markets where an Oldies station (KMXR) ranks # 1. I think it's a pretty good move on their part, they weren't making much of a dent in C-101.

I have always thought highly of C-101, they are an Active Rocker that covers some Classic Rock like Q94.5 here in the RGV.. They have had some competition in the past try and take on C-101 like KRAD 105.5, 102.3 The X, with little or no success. As for Jake-Fm, it seems like a pretty decient station from looking at their website and stoneage.yes.com with a good mix of 70's and 80's Classic Hits.
Edited by radiodog on 07/01/05 05:45 PM.

Aw man I really like that station. When I would go to Corpus to do weekends at KFTX. Rock 107-3 was the station I mainly listened to while I was there. I actually thought it was much better than C-101 music wise.

I was so sad to see the X go. :( I thought we ****in rocked. Glad I got out when I did. I didn't know about the flip till AFTER I gotdown to the Valley. Didn't shock me when I heard the news though. If you saw the spot log you'd think somethign was up too... all those barter spots....

The valley is WAY better anyways. I thought Corpus was the (BLEEP)... the RGV... WAY BETTER. Still gotta give it up to the people at Convergent. Really was one of the best group of people to work and party with.
