107.3 The Eagle - The Alleged Classic Hits Station

gamefreak... Magic is no longer "Soft and Contemporary". It's "80's, 90's and now". And yes, I've heard some of the artists you mention on 94.9. PS... It's also "Yaz", not Yazoo. ;)

Marino... The Eagle playing Highway to Hell is a BIG mistake in my honest opinion. Jocks on 102 can talk up The Eagle all they want. I maintain that most Bone listeners more likely will punch 97.9 up on there presets well before 107.3.

And I do agree... grow 97X. That's where you try to send Bone listeners that want 90's and now.

97x is probably as big as it can be, given the inferior signal.

I have to sound off on this too...

Cox might have a good idea by sending it's listeners to 97X/The Eagle... but so far, it sounds like they're doing this wrong. Sure, some of the more contemporary artists that the Bone plays may fit in on 97X, but can you really hear them playing Metallica? I think that if Cox wants to make this fly, they're totally going to have to rebrand 97X and The Eagle...

The people who listen to 97X are listening for the newer alternative bands that the kids like these days... they're probably already turned off by the heavy rotation of Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins...

Also, wtf is Cox thinking by moving all their Rock music over to that whimpy little signal??? Even if they try to go head to head with 98 Rock's active rock format, they're still going to lose because of the lousy signal alone.

And if 97X isn't going to be playing the Metallica, is the Eagle going to start doing it??? I'm not sure what they think they're doing, but this sounds like it's going to alienate a lot of listeners... maybe we'll all get lucky and this strategy will bankrupt Cox. ;D

And that will make us all lucky, how?

The same, stale boring classic hits over and over. How this is a ratings bonanza is beyond me. Earlier point well taken, if you are classic "hits" not "rock" then play some bee gees, etc...

This playlist is just painful to hear over and over...........

Good luck to the Boner, long live 98 Rock, still the best sounding rock station in Florida. 97.1 will never amount to much with a very poor stick.

Speaking of "same, stale boring classic rock hits over and over"... According to Yes.com, the second most popular song on Eagle's playlist, right behind "Hotel California" is... you guessed it... the aforementioned "Highway To Hell." Perhaps they've always been playing this song? Yes.com also has AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long" at No. 50.

Regardless if they call the station "classic hits" is WXGL now the highest rated classic rock station in the top 50 markets?

No wonder I listen to News, Talk and Country.

...and of course The Rays on 1220/106.9 WSRQ.

Does 2 jocks and only 300 cuts cheaper than say operating WRBQ?

I'm one of those who never gets tired of hearing classic hits played over and over (although I like a huge range of music including obscure songs that rarely/never get radio play). Yet the one song I am very burned out on, perhaps the only song from the 70s that would be an instant tune out for me is "Hotel California". I hate it. Interesting that it's their #2 most played song, it must still test great with little burn. Shows how out of the mainstream I am, I never need to hear that song again.

After their spectacular March ratings it looks like WXGL is in fact the highest rated classic rock station of any PPM market.

The Eagle is adding Bone music and changing to a harder sound. The have not, it seemed, included the music jocks cut from the Bone. Maybe it will tank and Q105 can get back on top. (cut from the bone-----didn't mean it but I like it). I still miss WBBY as AAA.

Nick Van Cleeve is getting blow back for being too liberal. Actually, Cox could take the airstaff on 101.5, change their names, and VT them on the Eagle.

I hope Q105 and all the CBS stations succeed. CBS makes at least some effort to sound like professional radio stations as I remember them. But then I don't count.

They could, but I wouldn't expect it. Cox seems committed to robojocking the Eagle and the Dove and the PPM's are very good.

CBS has live jocks on most of their stations nationally. In many cases it's not rewarded with PPM as much as I wish it would.

I thought CBS finally embraced VT?

Sorry, the harder edge isn't doing it for The Eagle. I haven't liked the station in a long time and like it even less now.

Maybe Eagle listeners will finally get pissed off and start listening to Max 98.3. Give a radio company that actually gives a f*** about the listener a boost in ratings. Same goes with Q105.
