107.5 K-Hits...or K-Rock??

At 6:15am this morning during the "Firecracker 400" countdown, I heard Van Halen's "You Really Got Me". Kevin Charles, I salute you! What a great jam, and one that The Arrow only gives lip service to. You're on to something there with the harder sound from the 70's. If you infuse some Black Sabbath and AC/DC into the playlist, I'll be in Heaven. Someone certainly needs to give The Arrow some competition, IMO, and 107.5 is certainly known for its various incarnations of the rock format over the years, and makes for an easy association. I look forward to hearing more.

With the exception of my local love for KACC, I have been listening to K-Hits, nearly exclusively, since late winter and I LOVE it! Kudos to Kevin Charles and the rest of the staff there; you're really giving the listeners what they want. Black Sabbath would be sweet!

As far as The Arrow needing competition, it wouldn't be difficult for anyone to exceed them, these days, in my opinion. Clear Channel's whole cluster of stations is becoming more and more cookie-cutter natured, daily (In my view, they're stale, cluster-wide).

There are many establishments in my area that have switched from Sunny to K-Hits during normal business hours. I never thought I'd see the day, but I'm glad. The variety of music on K-Hits is more appealing to me and apparently, based on the vast number of businesses bolting from Sunny in my area, I'm not alone!

That being said, I've always been a believer that fans of classic hits will listen to a station that plays classic hits, as opposed to a station, like Sunny, which tries to play a blend of today's music, with some classic rock and disco mixed into the playlist. Sometimes, trends don't tell the tale of the most important thing --- giving the listeners what they want.

Again, thank you Kevin C. Keep rockin' man; I'm loving it!

Taken from the firecracker 400:
Kiss On MyList Hall & Oates
Who's Crying Now Journey
Hungry Heart Bruce Springsteen
What A Fool Believes Doobie Brothers
Hey Nineteen Steely Dan
Who Are You Who
Somebody's Baby Jackson Browne
Don't Bring Me Down Electric Light Orchestra
Sara Fleetwood Mac
Everything She Does Is magic Police
Against The Wind Bob Seger
Another Brick in the Wall Pink Floyd
Old Time Rock 'n Roll Bob Seger
Another One Bites the Dust Queen
It's Still Rock 'n Roll To Me Billy Joel
Celebration Kool & The Gang
The Logical Song Supertramp
In the Air Tonight Phil Collins

Wow they're starting to tap into the early 80s as well. I sure hope they add some more 1978-1982 music. It's about time this era comes into the classic hits list.

I agree. Anything 25 years ago (1982 or so) should be considered, hence the Hall & Oates song mentioned above. I enjoy listening to 107.5 when I'm in town - unfortunately my new car radio is more attuned to XM than FM and can't pick up FM stations as well as my old car.

"Young people won't listen to the radio, what the hell?"

"rap is crap, music isn't good anymore, the only good stuff is my old tunes from the 70's and maybe some early 80's"

see a pattern?

Well, I'm guessing. With K-Hits' addition to early '80s Pop/Rock tunes on their station, It could spell doom for The Point. Cox's other Classic Hits station.

With the exception of the Kool & the Gang and Hall & Oates, all those songs are part of the monotonous radio wasteland of boredom also known as "The Arrow"... As Chris Farley would say, "Woopdee Freakin' Doo!"

IMHO, I think they're going in the right direction. I still would like to see them expand their playlist from the late 60's to mid 80's such as KBGO, 95.7 in Waco has done. At any rate, I'm liking what I'm hearing on K-Hits lately, and hope that Cox lets Kevin and the gang keep going forward. As far as "The Point", maybe they will change the format after the morph of K-Hits is complete. If it counts (and I know it won't) let em change 106.9 to Texas Country & Americana, such as KNBT in New Braunfels. Again... that's my humble opinion, and you know what they say about opinions ;)

...Or Perhaps AAA, CCM or even Urban AC-To go up against Powerhouse Majic 102.1.

.....or active rock

I'll second the real AC notion.

On another note, I love the idea of expanding K-Hits to cover the 60s through the 80s. My only suggestion is to expand the playlist in the other direction to also incorporate the very early 60s, with some Dion, Bobby Darin, etc. If K-Hits does that and covers the late 50s to early 60s through the 80s, I'll officially call it the best station I've heard and the greatest variety. They're close to my saying so, now!

Downthedial: I know what you're sayin': I actually heard "Abraham, Martin and John" (by Dion) at the supermarket the other day. With Barack Obama running for president, I thought that was interesting, since I haven't heard it on radio in years.

With the movie success a couple of years ago of the Bobby Darin biography "Beyond the Sea," I wondered why there were no radio stations taking advantage of his great music, building on that wonderful performance by Kevin Spacey.

Any chance you'll come to the radio reunion at the end of the month? It'd be great to see you there!

Hmmm I think Ive heard that...its called JACK....(or supposed to be...the Houston JACK does not play as good/wide a playlist as Dallas' JACK....and Ive heard Frank Sinatra on DFW's JACK!)
