Radio One just applied to amend the application again in its upgrade to 50kw. They have been issued a construction permit at a site close to the current signal comes from with 50kw @ 107 meters which is not a full class C2. They soon applied to amend the construction permit to be from a site NE of Atlanta and go full class C2 with 50kw @ 150 meters. The newest admendment would keep the tower in the same part of the market but make it 45kw @158 meters will a directional signal to protect 107.3fm from Anderson SC. Hopefully this upgraded signal will make it to air.
 
I could care less, I never listen to this disaster. Especially after they got rid of Smooth Jazz. Now Atlanta basically has nothing to listen too on the dial.
 
Rick, I believe both CP's and the amendment are for the same transmitter site in the Norcross area off Buford Highway. An existing tower is there, but it's a placeholder for the CP. Radio One wants to build a new self supporter nearby.

The original reason for the move from the Perimeter Mall area was to alleviate the short-spacing problem with 107.9. The move will allow 107.9 to increase power from its same site. At the time of the application, however, 107.9 was considered Radio One's most important Atlanta property. I predict that 107.5 with its new format will become the cluster's most important station.

Radio One chief engineer Vic Jester told me a couple of months ago that getting the FAA permits and completing construction will take about 18 months.
