107.5 vs 105.1 potential

So, let's say WBYN does go country...

What does this mean for The Big I-105. Would Citadel pull the plug and take 105.1 in another direction, say maybe to take on Y102?
______________

WIOV is the #1 station in the Lancaster market, WBYN's signal isn't strong in Lancaster. If WBYN went country it could do well in Reading & Berks & points north & east that WIOV misses, but there'd be no reason to kill I-105, as Lancaster County seems to be their primary target.

The 107.5 signal is the best between Reading and Easton, Once you go 15 miles into New Jersey you pick up 107.5 WBLS out of NYC. That would give Cat Country a battle, but I see Nassau not putting Country on that signal. Let me say that I think it would be great to throw a hot CHR like WPST on that signal.

There has been SO much speculation about what the format will be. I guess we'll just have to wait until they sign on to find out. It'll be interesting to see what happens, no doubt!

A balanced CHR would easily take out B104, which has been leaning Hot AC, even at night, for years. It would also pose a threat to Y102 in Reading.

However, if I'm Nassau, I don't just want to take on any station. I want to take on the station that poses the biggest threat to 99.9 The Hawk. That station is Cat Country.

Allentown looks like it can support a second Country station, and Reading can definitely support one. I'd be surprised if 107.5 doesn't end up Country, although CHR would be my second choice.

Right you are, Chuck!

Altho' I would like to see something non-CHR on 107.5, just personal opinion.
______________

I am not sure I follow this logic. Is this because, with two different formats that likely do not duplicate listeners, advertisers could get a package buy from Nassau? That would seem to just lower overall advertising dollars into Nassau.

I would think you'd want an unduplicated format for people that currently listen to a Philly station.

Given the region's demographics, that would seem to favor either urban or cool jazz formats.

Isn't the biggest threat to 99.9 actually WMGK, WRVV, or WTHK? A listener (there he goes again, with that individual listener logic!) is more likely to switch to one of those stations vs. Cat Country.

Well I meant that 99.9 is usually #1 in the ratings in Allentown. Their only challenger for that spot is 96.1. If another Country station signed on, 99.9 would be able to take the #1 spot easily.

If the Lehigh Valley is the ultimate prize, then country is probably the answer. But given the signal of this station, it could also play into Nassau's Philly strategy as well.

Personally, I'd go for classic country. It's been a while since I heard Charlie Rich, etc. Now...that's music!

How about all Christmas music all the time? LOL I wonder if anyone has ever tried that as a year-round format? Ok, before you start calling the guys in the white suits, I'm kidding! Seriously, I wonder what they'll do with the BYN studios. Last time I was in there (about 10 years ago), it was in dire need of repairs. It's a great location as far as the view, but might need some $$ for fix-ups.

Im sure Nassau would build a modern, high-tech studio somewhere between Boyertown and Allentown.

What were they thinking unloading everything save 1160?

Anyways, good pick up for Access.1
______________

I know a parttimer that works at WBYN they have been going to more and more automation and modernising the studio. Including automation.
