107.5 WGCI now broadcast live on XM

Clear channel replaced many of their programmed xm radio stations with terrestrial stations.

Channel 11 will replace CHR “Kiss” with a simulcast of CHR 102.7 KIIS-FM Los Angeles.
Channel 12 will replace Hot AC “Mix” with a simulcast of CHR “Z100” WHTZ New York.
Channel 13 will replace AAA “Music Summit” with a simulcast of AC “106.7 Lite-FM” WLTW New York.
Channel 57 will replace Country “Nashville” with a simulcast of Country “The Big 98” 97.9 WSIX Nashville.
Channel 163 will replace South Asian “Bollywood And Beyond” with a simulcast of Urban 107.5 WGCI Chicago.

Should be live now. From reports on xmfam.com, they are replacing local commercials with music so far.

Found this out here: http://xmfan.com/viewtopic.php?t=114820&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15

They just couldn't make one of those 700 WLW again, could they? I actually enjoyed the WLW simulcast.

Can't XM come up with their own formats in that genre instead of adding commercial stations to their lineup?

It does nothing for you if you live around Chicago. We have plenty of excellent OTA options here. But, they're good if you live in a place like West Virginia or rural Indiana. If I lived in an area with there was a limited number of rather bush-league signals, this could be enough to have me fork over the $$$ for satellite.

This isn't XM's call. Clear Channel bought 10% of their bandwidth when they invested in XM back in 1999, and the bandwidth is theirs to program how they please. For several years Clear Channel has programmed a handful of music channels exclusively for XM, and last night they flushed them all down the tubes for FM simulcasts. Probably more cost cutting at work.

Like livingfruitvirus said before. XM/Sirius have no say in these channels. It's all on clear channel. They program the channels. They are only available via the satellite on the xm side. The clear channel stations are not online via xm/sirius and not available on the sirius radios. The clear channel stations generally have higher quality audio compared to xm stations though. I can clearly tell a difference. It throws the eq on my radio.

Z100/KIIS = 20 on 20 or Sirius XM Hits One
WLTW = The Blend
WGCI = The Heat
WSIX = The Highway

All Clear Channel-programmed stations have their XM-programmed equivalents and have always had from when XM started programming commercial-free on its own music channels. In fact, when XM started the only AC channel was the early version of the soft AC Love, programmed by Johnny Williams, the Detroit guy who did voice-tracked evenings on WTMX before they went modern AC in the 90s. It was matching the CC channels that caused them to start the Blend and Highway 26 (or The Pulse, as it's known post-merger).

I liked WLW too....found I was listnenning alot....good Sunday baseball talk. Does Clear Channel have any great Heritage Oldies stations around the counrty?? Maybe KJR-FM??? I can think of stations like K-Earth, and WCBS-FM...but they are CBS properties. LOve the ESPN1000 morning show on XM 210 too....

It would be great if they put WLW back on the dish.

I would love to see them put KYLD(WiLD 94.9) from San Francisco on the radio dish!
