Why are they not broadcasting? turned it on and all static

my best guess is the storm knocked out power...their tower is way the hell out in the middle of nowhere above Boyertown...their AUX tower runs at a lesser power then their main xmitter, so you may not get them where you are.

Thats a good guess. Looks like up in Wilkes Barre, both WNEP and WVIA towers took hits. Both those websites have info on it. Winds are very high up there on Penobscott Mt. and a combination of ice and wind looks to have brought those towers down, maybe something similar happened at Frank.

Tower? Go to WPAZ, look up north. Top of the mountain.
well, i lived directly across from the tower...its pretty high up on that hill, so i guess you could call it a tower, even though it ain't all that big ;D

WFKB 10:15 PM EST Update

Still off... something's bleeding thru on 107.5, but disappears before I can figure out if its Frank at reduced power or another broadcaster on that frequency.

Just wondering, did Nassau ever hear of a thing called a generator? You put gas in it, and it powers stuff.

Y102 has been on a generator since sunday morning and managed to get storm info and road closings on.

OK, here it goes...
-power out at main 30,000 watt tower
-power out at studios/back up facility
-studios up on generator, running web stream
-they are waiting for the power companies to get things rolling again

ok, good, so they shouyld be back up soon then....i wonder how many people think they went of the air and changed their presets around? i know frank is one of the most listened to stations in my area

No need... I switched my XM Inno (generation one) modulator to 107.5fm. Funny listening to O&A coming out of the reserved-for-Frank frequency. If I want a better mix than FKB was playing? I punch up XM49 "Big Tracks".

i am amazed and appalled at how many stations out there do not run emergency generators off of their antenna sites. i used to work at a medium market AM station that had a guy up at the tower filling up a gas generator until the power came back on. why isn't it an fcc rule that stations have to have backup power? being off-the-air for so many days due to something as simple as a power failure is just plain stupid. having your antenna blow over like in scranton is an acceptable excuse, but a power failure? go buy a couple hamsters and let them run and generate power. i don't know, but do something. i am sure most of their listeners have gone back to 102.5 never to return. nassau really messed up here.

not, because the people who listen to frank hate y102, hence the reason why they switched over... y102 would be good if the leaned a little heavier..either that go all classic rock...if you gonna play the new rock....ya gotta ggo all the way...into the tool and system of a down....that goes for zzo as well, now back the the Frank situation

It would be mind-blowing to know how much revenue they are losing for not having an OTA signal. Let alone that, at least for me, I could not get into the server to listen to the stream, which is reportedly still up.

How many here thing FKB should come back as a different format? Anyone????

Interstate:

A lot of us HAD them, but they were removed under pressure from Eco-Terrorists, er, Ecology Groups. They played a scenario that our fuel tanks MIGHT, COULD, POSSIBLY, WHAT IF leakes, there would be a tree-sapping yellow breasted spider eater egg nest that MIGHT be affected. If not that, the noise of running it MIGHT scare trutles egg nesting areas.

Even after 9-11-01, they don't care if we're under attack, just don'r disturb thew squirrels.

I do NOT exagerate. It wasn't worth keeping, defending legally, or converting to LP.

I was kind of hoping they had turned a little ice storm into a format change. Or at least they could have spent the week looking for 300 other songs that were hits between 1975 and 1995. I mean, there MUST have been at least a couple they could have found. But they're back. Boring as ever. The dead air was a nice improvement though.

Nassau has made so many cuts, including engineering, they are short handed so they are probably having personnel issues on top of a diificult situation. Hope they can get this thing on soon, sucks being off that long...
