107.5's signal in the Poconos

I'm heading to the Poconos in the coming weeks so I am curious how well can I hear 107.5 Frank FM in the Stroudsburg area?

Two years ago, after I got off the Bear Creek/PA Turnpike Interchange, I can hear the old WBYN with a clear signal on my Walkman! This is because Route 115 near the Turnpike is situated in the high elevations.

Anyway, since this is considered a Lehigh Valley/Reading station, do you think that Frank FM can make it far up to the Poconos since I can get most Allentown stations there?

I'd say yes. With a car tuner, you should be fine. If you're not using a car, take a decent radio. WBYN makes it easily as far as Route 33. I haven't really tried it past there, but I'm sure it's listenable.
______________

I live in Schuylkill County...bout an hour south of the Poconos...signal is fairly strong, but has dropouts due to our hilly terrain. Was a big fan of Mix 107.5 years back.

I know this strays from the thread a bit, but there are too many inconsistencies in this flip. Don't you normally have a staff ready to go in prep for Flip Day 1? Lack of spots at all...many mysteries!

Well most of the time you do. Radio these days doesn't seem to think that is too important. Usually that is just a plan that isn't happening on time. That usually means that someone isn't getting the job done, especially if you projected the flip date months ago.

Sometimes stations do a "soft" flip then finish the job over the next month or so. That ususally happens when there is an urgency to change like when the station is losing money (not the case with WBYN).

There very rarely is a soft flip when you spend big bucks on billboard marketing as in Frank's case. I think we get what we see (and hear)
Edited by Mike_Shannon on 03/15/06 05:11 AM.

Well, here's a different point of view.

Regardless of what is the better thing to do, I think more stations are flipping formats without jock staffs in place. Just read the number of stories about format flips that contain a few sentences that usually go something like this:

"Big Box Media's Joe A. Citizen will oversee programming of the new Matilda 98 until a permanent PD is hired. The station will run jockless for the next several weeks (months) until a staff is hired."

In many cases a consultant or corporate PD is overseeing the launch until a local PD with experience in the format is hired.
