107.7 FM, asking price ?

With the recent sales of radio stations, WSPQ/110K,
and the 96.5FM/am(?)combo in the dunkirk/fredonia area being sold below
what may have been expected (less than 1 million)
Well, I am wondering, what would a station like 107.7 "serving" buffalo go for...

this is to be answered:

(a) realistically, meaning the outrageous asking price so entercomm,
can cover the losses that they paid for it....and still turn a profit.
(since that is why every one is in business, to make $$$$$ )

(b)
and, then a more authentic answer, what would this
forum, ideally believe the station is worth, if
entercomm didnt have to inflate the asking price,
to make up for over-paying for it, a few years ago....

(u may not recongize the author of this post, due to it being so short, lol )

WSPQ went for what is was worth and what the market would bear.

WDOE/WBKX, according to John Bulmer, who posted here recently, went for about $1 million and change. You can debate that price for the market, but it was agreed to by the seller and buyer, so it's a done deal.

Entercom is doing very nicely with the Lake. It's performing, thus far, very well for them in the context of the Buffalo cluster. Ratings could be better, but it's turning a profit singularly and within the goals of the cluster. There's a big "Not For Sale" sign on the transmitter building in Whethersfield.

In hindsight now I'm not so sure Entercom "overpaid" for 107.7. Arguably, the station is the most successful it's been in a long time. And the FM dial is fairly crowded due to the proximity of Canada and Rochester so any FM is probably a bit more valuable.

I'm sure if WBUF went up for sale, regardless of current format and ratings, we would see some CRAZY numbers.

Probably about what it fetched a couple years ago...$10 million.

Not For Sale

The factors that jacked up the price of 107.7 when Entercom bought it haven't changed. They don't want another signal in the market that could challenge Kiss, Star, or WBEN. I don't see any reason that they would give up 107.7 as long as it's paying its own way - or at least not costing them much. If The Lake format doesn't do the job, they'll take it in another direction that will.
