107.7 FM...Pirate?

I caught this apparent pirate station in 107.7 FM the other day. They played a hodge podge of Spanish/Tropical music. No station IDs, no jocks, just music. I picked them up clearly through East Providence, Providence, Pawtucket, North Providence, up into Lincoln and North Smithfield. I'm assuming it's a pirate, because I don't know of any stations on 107.7 in this immediate area. Anyone else hear this station before?

I spoke to my friend in East Providence the other day and he's reporting hearing this.

Yes, pirate.

107.7 is out of Olneyville, a mainly Hispanic neighborhood in Providence. This pirate blasts into Johnston where I live, but seems to be located in the center of Olneyville at the intersection of Plainfield St., Manton Ave., Hartford Ave., and Broadway. In this area, it totally wipes out Kiss 108 (107.9) from Boston. It also scans on the car radio along the Olneyville section of all these streets including Westminster St. and on the 6/10 Connector going through Olneyville.

Today, I heard this 107.7 pirate as far away as Swansea, MA...along I-195 near the Cardi's Furniture building. However, I was unable to pick up the station in dowtown Providence...along Dorrance Street near the District Court and WARL's studio. Hell, you can barely pick up WARL downtown...or anywhere else!

I know that I could get the 107.7 pirate up until close to the North Attleboro area along I-95, along with 89.3 ICE-FM (although that's over now). Is the 103.1 pirate still on?

I don't know about the 103.1 pirate. Then again, I didn't know there was one.

WARL has an identity crisis (just like WHLM in Bloomsburg, PA). They are supposed to be a sports station, but yet when flipping them on, I have heard oldies music, old ladies as jocks who can barely speak (God bless them though for having the energy to go on the air), lousy board-oping during Providence Bruins games, local talk shows that have nothing to do with sports, the list goes on. What are they doing over there anyway?

WARL has an identity crisis because of the dude that runs it. I believe when they first started running it they had some pretty entertaining (if not completely redundant) local sports shows on in the morning. They also had the Sports Live show in the afternoon which was complete bullocks. But at least it had sort of an idea. Now its complete jibberish. But mcferson is always on a new sugar daddy - boxing, Barros, Michaud, whoever. I don't think the guy knows how to stay on a subject for long enough to do anything worthwhile.

of course the larger problem is the dude who owns it and has allowed guys like mcferson and jc to completely hijack the signal for their own personal profit.
