107.7 move to lafayette?

Q

Guest
somebudy at marsh was talking about 107.7 leaving mc and moving in to battleground or brookston, i couldbn tell what town. who can buy them. maybe radioworks? i tried to pick it up in the truck and it came in better.

I doubt any existing radio group in Lafayette will buy them. Artistic Media Partners and Schurz are already at or near their maximum allotment for the market. Perhaps John Balvich, Kelly Busch, or Vern Kasper could purchase the station, but I doubt either would want to ante up the cash for upgrades and a tower move.

If this does happen, I'd love to see an engineering study on WMRS if it moved it's tower closer to Lafayette. They're already nulled pretty well toward Indy to protect WNTR. If anyone else has any more info about this, I'd love to hear it.

I wouldnt go round getting my secret top raydeeo informations from local supergrocery stores my friend maybe try a hardwear store their more likely to know about the business.

Ape79 is right who in lafftown would want to or could be able to take them on its a sure given nobody thats who. there!

There are many hidden radio secrets in the fruit section but most importantly the good show prep is in the adult beverage section.

Just FYI- There is no RadioWorks in Lafayette

Balvich can't buy....he should have moved WIBN around if he could afford another signal...and would never be a player in Lafayette

Kelly Bush can't and won't...WGLM has been for sale for over 10 years

A new owner could come in with a 2 or 3 signal group...that would be interesting woudln't it?

Looks like WMRS should buy WGLM and WAZY and take them over!

Have you listened to WMRS????

The whole station is one huge mess. The morning guy is the hack king. Kevin would probably be a great jock if he dropped the stereotypical jock voice bit. They also don't care if they have phones ringing in the background for their trading post and during their alternative rock show.......that's right, kids.....they have an alt rock show on the weekends on what is supposed to be an AC station.

The format is on satellite for the most part and would probably be somewhat believable to be in-house if it wasn't for Kevin and Laura, the afternoon host, voicing their own ID liners on the localization drops instead of the jock on the air. What makes things worse is that the ID liners always overlap with the satellite jocks talk break. "THE CD IS READY WMRS" The jock starts talking usually at the start of "WMRS"....great way to locallize when your calls are nearly inaudible all the time.

I know I am probably making too much of this station, but there's bad radio and there's WMRS......a category that's 10 times worse than any somewhat neglected radio station you've heard in the past. What's really sad is the Page's are extremely cocky about WMRS and feel they actually run an excellent station. A new owner and a new format would be a welcome change for the people in Monticello.

No no no no fellow that is so much the truth sometimes I listen to them for comedy purposes! I can under stand having the phones maybe in the background on the mike durign there trading post just for effect but not on an alternative rock show what are they thinking. Whats worse part of all is they have the same man {this kevin i think you deemed him) on ALMOST ALL OF THERE SPOTS AND SOMETIMES THERE COLD WITH no music behind and it sounds like just one continual commercial for five minutes how do they EXPECT listeners to tolerate that and the clients dont know any better because its just small town radio not to cast rumors or suspicion on stereo types. count it!

You might think WMRS is bad radio if your little brain has been programed
to believe that what is called commercial radio in Lafayette is good radio.
Uncreative, prepackaged, canned, and boring. If it wasn't for WMRS in
Monticello and WBAA Purdue University, I would not use radio in the
Lafayette area. At least they can be creative and have the power to
do so in house.

Ur-A-Kiddingme! Theres a big difference be tween "being creative' and being original and profesional theres nothing creative about writing the same old (summer is heating up) commercial scripts again and again and there just reading there morning show 'shtick' from a teleprompter service that gives them there very corny jokes that arent even funny on the side of being campy about it. that type of thing is not effective if you now the slightest thing about raydeeo the listener just tunes it out because its so cleeshay and ineffective. they are also the kings queens princess and jacks of having there clients voice there own commercial and that is a big raydeeo no no if you dont know.

wbaa is very good.

I listen to WMRS in Lafayette too. I really enjoy the Trading Post and have sold a car on the show. At least they know how to have fun. I haven't heard any alternative rock show on Saturday. But I have heard a Bluegrass Show on Sunday. I think you need to start getting your information at WalMart and give up on Marsh.

Walmart censors music which is not with the constitution for me and they dont sell the special citrus shampoo that im medically required to use FOR REASONS I WILL NOT GO IN TO SO DONT EVEN ask so Im really stuck with either target or a place like that.

Boiler is right on the money about WMRS.

High school or college radio has the charm of non-professionals making mistakes, but WMRS is just people who stopped being creative in about 1986 (sort of like the Bob and Tom Show but with less revenue involved!).

The overlapping liners with the satellite feed is unacceptable. You can almost see them standing there mouth agape saying, "Why does the satellite keep DOING that??".

I feel for the small businesses that shell out hundreds/thousands of dollars a month thinking that their spot (read horribly by Kevin) is doing them any good. It's a shame.

It must be Thursday, we have all the genius's on here today, that work as jocks and not make a lot of money, but can critique all their co-jocks with finesse! By the way Donkeypuncher, is your grammer and spelling part of your schtich or just ignorance? Dont mean to pick on you alone, but at the moment you are the one that stands out and speaks out the most.
I think the move to Lafayette would be a good one! Wont happen for awhile though I suspect.

Didn't the Page's buy WMRS from Bruce a few years before he sold WKLU? If so, that Russ Oasis money won't be what's going to finance the move if indeed it happens. I'm not inclined to believe rumblings at the local Marsh without some hardcore evidence that this is slated to happen. If it was Payless, I may be more inclined to believe it, but not Marsh. ;D

What's the purpose of this thread? Is it that AMP needs to buy another station to compete with
Shurz?
Is it, that WMRS is the last stick that really can move to Lafayette? Guess this whole thing is just
a bunch of fishing and hopeful wishing. And I doubt that a station owner like Kevin will discuss
his operation here.

Pick on me is right, what have I done? Don't worry though, I get picked on enough by friends and others about my spelling the way it is. This message string business just needs a spell checker. I'll cut and paste this one and see how much better it is, ouch eleven mistakes found and corrected. Keep up the good talking discussion about SUNNY radio. Don't miss out!
