107.7fm WPFX back on the air soon?

everything with WPFX 107.7 Luckey Ohio is ready to go, except they are not allowed to begin broadcasting until WLFC in North Baltimore begins broadcasting, WPFX is leaving North Baltimore, and according to the FCC that leaves it with no local coverage. The Change of COL can not take effect until there is a new station to fill the void being left behind by WPFX leaving North Baltimore (even thought it has been silent). As for the new station, 88.3 WLFC is in the final stages of putting up the new antenna, and according to a filing from Toledo radio that was turned down by the FCC, both stations should be up and running with in 45 Days

WPFX asked for special permission to begin testing and run commercial free while WLFC finished its move and was turned down.

I hear BAS is going to run it(even though Dudley's still the owner?

Its going to be an ABC format then, My guess is True Oldies or Classic rock.

It wouldn't be the first time even in western Ohio...BAS has been running WTTF/1600 Tiffin (for owner Doug Stephan) until it gets moved into Heidelberg College.

Maybe they'll keep it warm again with a simulcast of WFRO-FM "Eagle 99.1"? Probably not, since it moved north. Maybe they'll just run a standalone Citadel "Hits and Favorites" temporarily as "Eagle 107.7"?

Or maybe 107.7 The Wolf. This might be a possibility as well since as some else pointed out
Dudley has reserved the domain name 1077wolf.com recently. A simulcast of 92.1 WOHF
may not be a bad thing.

It'd certainly keep the filaments warm, if BAS is going to be a caretaker for Mr. Dudley.

Or whatever is kept warm these days...computer chips? ;)

Other sources are reporting that WPFX has now gone on the air as 1077 The Wolf. The format?
Country. If the signal strength in Toledo is good they may just give WCKY and WKKO a run for their money.

I saw that. Can any ears over there confirm this?

Country seems a bit crowded in Toledo these days, with K100 and now WCKY as a quasi-Toledo-ish station presumably trying to shave a handful of shares out of K100...

The move-in date for WTTF is sometime this month; the studios at Heidelberg have already opened to the public.

The way I understand it is, BAS will relinquish operating control of WTTF over to Doug Stephen's Tiffin Broadcasting, who will make the donation to Heidelberg shortly thereafter. However, BAS will continue to assist with ad sales and some programming purposes, as the transition to being a student-run commercial station cannot occur overnight. Of course, Stephen has had a long, tight working relationship with BAS...

The funny thing is that the FCC apparently forgot that North Baltimore was without radio service since July 2008, give or take a few months, which is why WPFX was denied testing on the new Luckey transmitter a few weeks ago.

WLFC fired up the former WPFX transmitter this past Saturday. Did the change in COL take place that same day?

I presume that the station is still in testing mode... which is what they wanted to do way earlier, but the FCC forgot they were off the air anyway in North Baltimore and declined the request. Which would possibly explain things like dead carrier signals and the like.

It's obviously hard for me to keep tabs on how they are progressing, given that I'm far, far away from Luckey. But the possibility of a small, stand-alone signal in a city like Toledo certainly piques my curiosity.

The information stated here for WTTF is incorrect. The studios have not opened to the public and WTTF is not set to move until next month. Also BAS will not relinquish control once it moves. They have an LMA which will be in effect after the move. WTTF will be donated to Heidelberg and become their property eventually once the current owners have paid off the note on the property. This will take years.

WTTF is also a commercial signal which someday may have students on it's airwaves but it must continue to serve the public interest as a commercial station.

If they aren't moving until November, that's practically news everywhere... even on the Tiffin papers and from Synder himself.

What CAN'T be debated was that the center was dedicated in a public ceremony last month that Heidelberg posted on their website. I'm sorry. I thought it was already open.

Especially because BAS released almost all of the air staff there back in 2008, save for OM Russ Snyder (even the newscasts at one point were piped in from Sandusky!) it's obvious that BAS has to retain some from of programming control after the move. There's no way it can be restaffed otherwise right now. That just makes practical sense.

The transfer of the license is such a lateral move that it has to be done that way. Plus BAS is heavily focused on the sales aspect, naturally, so that is a perfect fit to begin with.

One point of confusion I did have, and was clarified by Snyder, is that WTTF will have an FM translator on 93.3 FM starting sometime in the spring. That has no bearing whatsoever on WHEI/88.9; both stations will be separate operations, a commercial operation and a student-run educational outlet... that will be operating side-by-side as neighbors.

And again, given the good relationship Doug Stephen and the BAS folk have with each other, any type of payment can't be an issue at all. I think Klein and Lorenzen are more than happy to do this.

I saw the news OMW posted on the dedication of a new center. The building which was quoted in that article is not correct either. The new center will be located at Kreig Hall.

Tiffin Broadcasting financed the purchase through a lender. This is the part they will need to pay before WTTf finally becomes Heidelberg's property. The one part that may be finished this month will be the student run radio and television studios.

Back on topic:

WLFC seems to have relocated to the old 107.7 tower. Picked up their signal which seemed much stronger and stayed with me for a good 20-25 miles. If they have moved and are operating from the new site could 107.7 be far behind?

It should. What I'm not exactly sure on is if WLFC changed their city of license to North Baltimore yet. (Have they? Or is it still "WLFC, Findlay?")

That has to be concurrent with 107.7 transferring their city of license to Luckey and broadcasting full-time from their new transmitter - the "sole local service" rule coming into play, because WPFX was the only station licensed to North Baltimore beforehand.

Until WLFC makes (or made) their move, 107.7 simply can't do anything.
