107.9 FM is Fixing to Move to Montgomery

I got this info from the following link: http://montgomerytvandradio.blogspot.com/

In this link, the article now speaks of a web site being built for the new station. Talk will be the new format, for this move in.

According to the chat room, that's on here, the station will sign on within the next ten days.

Stay tuned and I'll keep you posted.

P.S. So long Tom Joyner and Touch Urban format. ...And lest I forget, so long to Roscoe Miller's 107.9 FM station too. He'll have to shut it down, if he hasn't done so already. At least he'll still have a station at 107.1 FM.

R.D.P;

Is Roscoe Miller the original owner of the station, or does he have an unlicensed station on 107.9/107.1 ? Also, I thught ABC's Touch Format was on WWMG 97.1, or that's what Zach had it listed as at one time on the Alabama Media Page.

107.9 has been licensed for years now but will soon shut down once WACV signs on. I believe that 107.1 still has a deleted license but is still being allowed to broadcast.

WJAM 107.9 Orrville is currently doing Touch Urban but once they move to Montgomery, this format will no longer exist in West Central Alabama. This station is currently owned by Alexander Broadcasting of Selma Alabama but will soon be LMAed by Bluewater, once the move has taken place.

Yes Montgomery did have Touch Urban at 97.1 but now they're doing local programming, with Tom Joyner and Mel Devonn's Love Zone program from Touch.

Hope this helps.

R.D.P;

The info has been very helpful; thanks. Also, I don't believe I've ever heard of the station on 107.9 or 107.1 that's about to shut down, what are the call letters?

Travis

W300AN is the calls for 107.9, that's fixing to shut dpwn.

Now for 107.1, I don't know what those calls are but someone with more knowledge may can help us.

B.T.W. These two stations are rebroadcasts of WKXN from Greenville Alabama and are located in Montgomery Alabama.

W300AN....that's not a station...that's a translator....they aren't protected because they aren't "real" radio stations ;)

I do know that W300AN has shut down from what someone else just reported.

Now for an Update: 107.9 FM will indeed become a News/Talk station but the calls won't be WACV, after all.  Instead the calls will be WMRK.  This is now leading me to believe that 1340 AM in Selma will pick up the WJAM calls, once they switch from Oldies to Urban.

R.D.P <><

P.S. Thanks to b5 and his chat room for this new information.  Your site still rocks!

The WMRK call letters are heritage call letters that have significance to the Alexander family that owns 107.9. The format that is currently on 107.9 from my understanding will transition to 1340 AM with the WJAM call letters. In order to keep the WMRK call letters they had to be parked some where so they landed on 107.9. John Garrett is the new station voice and he could correct this along with anyone else inside Bluewater but I don't think the call letters are going to be significant to how the station identifies itself though. I believe the emphasis will be on "News Talk 107.9".

Thanks for the shout out also RDP.

Your welcomed!

Now for some thoughts on 1340 AM:

The sound quality is less than to be desired. If Alexander is going to do Urban on here, they need to clean up the sound quality and get the awful hum out of the way. Hope they'll clean it up, once they make the switch.

Now for some thoughts on the possible format change for WALX 100.9 FM:

If ALEX is going to be anything like the new JACK from Tuscaloosa, man this radio market is fixing to get very interesting. I'll have to wait till Tuesday and see what does happen to Lazer 101. I do know that Paul Finebaum is moving to this station, come Tuesday. It wouldn't make sense to have a sports talk show, on an Urban station anyway.

Just my two cents.

P.S. When WALX and the current WMRK make their official changes, I'll be sure to pass the info along to you. Stay tuned.

B.T.W. When WMRK AM does become WJAM, will the current WJAM at 107.9 officially shut down and go off the air and then come back on, when they officially move to Montgomery? Inquiring minds want to know.
