107.9 - Getting "Hot"?

Radio One registered the domain hot1079philly.com last month.

Hmmm...

I think we have a winner!!! As of now, 100.3 has dropped the "Beat" name on its website and i'd assume on air. Wonder how many HOT 107.9 drops from Radio One Atlanta will be used in the beginning.. I also believe this will be the launch of Rickey Smiley too.

107.9 to Merlin, perhaps? Hot a ruse?

Not the best signal in the area, but not horrible.

If Hot is for real, what happens to CC's 106.1? Sale on that in the future? Talk radio?

Are the WPHI calls worth something to anybody else in the market, or entering the market? Maybe they're meaningless, but...

If Hot 107.9 is nothing but a renamed & relocated 100.3, there wouldn't be be an impact on 106.

Hot imaging could be Hip Hop such as in New York or Atlanta. It could also be CHR as in Richmond, Harrisburg, Altoona, Wilkes-Barre.

Your presumed point, as well as Shawty's are well taken, though. Radio One uses it for Hip Hop stations elsewhere.

It certainly could be CHR...but would anyone really enter that space in Philadelphia at this point? Probably wouldn't do much better than renaming the hip hop station...once again. They'll be an also-ran either way it appears.

Look at other radio one hot fm's. They are hip hop & R&B. Or in otherwords what the beat is. For example http://www.indyhiphop.com/

If i'm not mistaken, the reason the beat moved from 103.9 to 100.3 years ago was because they felt it's low ratings were due to a poor signal. Are they using that excuse for this move as well?

Well really the beat never improved ratings wise from the move. The current format on 103.9 often beats it, thus making the beat consistently the lowest rated station in Philly for radio one.

WRNB is cracking top 10, so i'm sure they want it on the strongest signal if it can help, while at the same time give the beat a fresh start with a new name & dial position. If they start a TV campaign, the masses won't know its the same company/station. So they can atleast a lets check it out bump.

So they went to the trouble of registering a frequency-specific domain just to throw off the seven people who would notice, or care, where the Beat format's new name landed?
