107.9 Jamz sold

To Steckline's Ag Network. Signal upgrade planned to improve Wichita coverage. Any ideas what they'll flip to? Doubt they'll be keeping urban.

Doesn't Steckline also own Sports KGSO-1410? If so they would probably simulcast that on 107.9.

When Steckline drops the Urban format on KSJM Wichita will once again be without Urban station, only thing close in the market will be Power 93.9. I would've thought someone like Russell Perry out of Oklahoma would purchase KSJM for the price their selling it for because that's up his price range, not to mention it's been rumored for years that he was looking to purchase a station in Wichita.

They could probably make a heck of a lot of money simulcasting that format on FM, but at that point it seems as if KGSO 1410 would become somewhat irrelevant except for those listening in their homes who can't pick up the signal.

I saw a posting on AllAccess that they were staffing up for "Wichita's Newest Radio Station"....

Maybe they'll go classic country!!! Wichita needs another country station!!! ;)

The KGSO simulcast (or at least a partial one) may make sense.

For those not familiar, KGSO-AM operates with a southwest directional pattern during the day, and with a mostly south signal night that has major signal issues in east Wichita and western Butler County, where a lot of the money demos live. (It also has virtually no coverage day or night north of Wichita, and problems in parts of Butler County during the day.) 107.9 can't city grade Wichita unless they can get another station to downgrade, and the owner of that station, even if they were willing to consider it, would likely make a demand that Larry Steckline will never accept.

Putting the 1410 programming on 107.9 would though give them a better signal presence in the aformentioned areas. Maybe not a city grade, but it would work.

I honestly hope they make it some sort of alternative station like Fly92 was... we need something that like to support local bands and such once again.

They were streaming before midnight New Years Eve.I noticed now the stream is down. Has the change begun? Anyone in Wichita please respond. Thanks.

Looks like January 15, 2007 is the date for the change according to Carrie Rengers Wichita Eagle column dated 12-30-07. New owner Larry Strickline will change the call letters to KWLS and the station will be called ”U.S. 107.9”. and yes, it will be a country format (as if Wichita was in need of yet another country station).

One wonders why on earth anyone would go country in Wichita at this point. Classic rock is covered. Apart from modern rock, or something such as AAA which isn't a likely pick. What else could fit in the market? When I was down there, I was impressed with Journal's 104.5 The Fox doing the occasional deep track and keeping the commercial load down, and 100.5 Bob FM threw in some interesting tracks.

Whats wrong with Power 93.9,, they are a Rhythmic Chr.... Just an Urban in Disguise, plus Channel 96.3 plays plenty of Urban.

I hear some of the old Jamz staff is heading to a new hip hop station launching in Indianapolis this Spring.
