107.9 Sacramento

Even though there was the domain registration reported on by Lance to suggest otherwise, there is just the sliver of possibility in my mind that KSTE-FM ends up as an adult/classic hits station.

I may be reading into things, but a lot of these daily stunt formats revolve around a classic hits/adult hits playlist. 70’s 80’s 90’s pop as well as rock and alternative have all had their time as stunt formats, and one has to wonder if that was intentional. It’s possible they’re going for something like KOSF/SF.

Really enjoying the Yacht Rock music selections. Goes great with the weekend!
Personally, this would be a nice replacement for what is currently Soft AC. Reminds me of the Mellow Rock format. I wonder if this might actually work as viable format. Nice softer rock without the syrupy hits heard on Soft AC. I liked the selection played on Saturday, just would find another name for it besides "Yacht Rock".

The only choices that look like permanent formats are Top 40, Country and Christian. Maybe Spanish Top 40, too, but how many votes for that do they expect to get when all the stunting so far has been in English? All the other options look more like potential weekend specials rather than actual formats.
The format is already decided. The voting stunt is only to build cume on the frequency. Christian seems highly unlikely.

I realize that choice is made and the vote is just another part of the stunt. But don't you think they'd put the chosen format among the "choices"? Or wouldn't it matter to station management that the "voters" might be puzzled if the format turns out to be urban AC, right-wing talk or some other format they weren't even given the option of voting for?

I don’t think classic hits is one of the choices, correct? The closest would probably be 80’s music they played yesterday. If that’s the case it seems all the more likely they go with Top 40 (Pop).

Exactly. And given that this tragedy didn’t happen under iHeart’s ownership, why introduce negativity after a fun stunting period by apologizing for someone else’s mistake?

They should do something to honor the woman killed by the previous 107.9's morning show contest in 2007. Sacramento 107.9 radio frequency back 15 years after controversial contest
So a buisness killed a person, later moved to a different "address," and you're saying that the new people who bought the original "address" should be doing something to honor that? That ship sailed when "The End" was kept on the air, using a loophole where (then) Entercom surrendered the frequency and call-letters but moved the format and branding (in tact) to another frequency. iHeart and the new station on 107.9 have no ties to what happened. Might as say that every station on 107.9 across the country honors the victim.

Per my earlier comment, many of the genres were classic hits/adult hits derivatives. iHeart certainly knows what they’re going to launch on 107.9, and per Lance’s report (which I recommend reading) it seems they’ve registered domain(s) and social media accounts for it. However, you never know if it is all a red herring, and at the same time it is equally as likely that they go CHR and I’m completely wrong.

The drive-in was using 90.3 for a while, blocking KDVS in that area. I sent KDVS an email about it (they often play an announcement asking for feedback on their signal) and the drive-in signal had been moved next time I was in the area. They must have been using 107.9 for a while and don’t know it’s back on the air; I was using that frequency for my in-car transmitter til recently.

Don’t know why the drive in doesn’t turn their signals off during the day, must at least cost money to keep them on. Always wondered how they get away with broadcasting foul language also which is in a lot of movies. It’s always fun to tune in while driving by there when movies are going.

Never understood myself how that drive-in operates with multiple frequencies every day that are NOT Part 15 compliant, let alone broadcasting profanity in the movie audio. That is defined as an illegal broadcaster according to the FCC, yet its been going on for years. And directly adjacent to a freeway!

you cant really regulate language on an unlicensed facility that is supposed to be part 15.. the fcc has no teeth there.and as for what it costs to keep it left on.. mayhe a few bucks a month..

Wed. 6/1/2022 brings: Country. Round and round the "Wheel of Formats" goes; where it stops, nobody knows!
(Well, iHeart knows for sure, they just ain't tellin' us yet!)

How far do the drive-in signals travel? Interesting. I wonder what type of transmitter they use.

That’s odd, since I know you can pick them up well outside the drive in. I’ve heard them as far down as the Watt Ave exit.

If I remember correctly, the FCC allows churches, drive-in theatres, and real estate agencies to have a little bit more coverage, but in this case, they are probably violating protocol. On Michi's website, there isn't a specific power limit for FM, only field strength. She would be able to explain it 100x better than I could. By the way, when I was a fair deal younger, I headed out to the drive-in in Fort Collins, CO, known as the Holiday Drive-in. They broadcasted the movies on FM, and if I remember right, they had decent reach. At least half a mile or so.
