107.9 THE LINK FLIPS TO AC

Fresh 102.7, Fresh 94.7 Fresh 105.9 are HOT AC's. I have no idea why they are considered AC. Do they sound like Lite 102.9?

AC is heavy on 70s and 80s with conservative hits from today. Fresh FM's are typically 80s-now, with some 80s but heavy on 90s and newer songs- many too aggressive for the typical AC format.

I don't see how WLNK is AC at all.
I agree. And on this site Hot AC even has its own board.

It's a much louder format, in addition to having more emphasis on newer songs and no 70s.

I have to put up with a hot AC that I believe should be called a CHR because it's so loud, but that's the way the formats are defined.

^I think the difference is "Hot AC" needs to play a decent amount of current music (since it's the adult form of "Top 40")

Playing old tracks by Guns 'N' Roses doesn't make a station Hot AC
Which tracks? There is no way on this planet anything by Guns 'n Roses other than "Patience" or "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" or "Live and Let Die" is AC of any description. Okay, I looked them up and I've never heard of most of their songs. But I guarantee the ones I have heard of aren't AC.

^Your definition of AC is really outdated though - I'd guess that about half the stations on the AC panel nowadays don't touch 70s stuff - they play 80s, 90s, and 2000s music, just with very few currents, like 107.9 The Link is doing now

I'd say that only about half the AC panel worries about how "loud" they are - the other half worries more about playing "familiar" songs, which often include Nickelback, Creed, and 3 Doors Down

If you look at the AC chart, you'll see that Lite 102.9 is definitely not your "typical" AC station

Are you saying it's a soft AC? Because I guarantee it's not soft.

I forgot to add one thing to a post of mine above and it won't let me edit. I have listened to two classic country stations in recent years, one at 98.3 and one at 98.1. I'm too far south for a good signal from either one a lot of the time, and Q-98, which is considered hot AC rather than CHR, insists on making loud pounding noises.

Just checked yes.com. and yeah they're not exclusively soft like they were back when I lived there in '07

They play A LOT of 60s and 70s stuff though - it's almost like they're doubling as an oldies station

Also, they play You Give Love A Bad Name by Bon Jovi - don't really see how that's more AC than Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns 'N' Roses

I agree with that, 94.7 Fresh FM Washington D.C. should be Hot AC.

Their is one Fresh station that sounds AC which just changed to the name Fresh. That station is 102.5 KEZK St. Louis which rebranded today as Fresh 102.5 with the slogan "More Music, Better Variety" In the market CBS also owns the Hot AC Y98.

Also another station labled as AC but sounds Hot AC is Star 92.1 in Myrtle Beach, SC which is owned by Next Media.

Neither song is AC. Or should be on any station calling itself AC rather than hot AC.

And if you are describing "Lite" 102.9 they should be dragged into the courtroom for lying.

Actually, most successful AC stations still give 70s music prominence. B101 Philadelphia, 106.7 New York, WLIT Chicago, KOST 103.5 LA, WLYF Miami, etc. Very few successful AC stations (not Hot AC) omit 70s music entirely. There was a discussion on the AC board about that a while back. 70s/80s are extremely viable for AC.

Lite 102.9 may be a little older leaning, but they're pretty much like most successful AC's.

I see where 107.9 is adding some 70s songs. That is one of the main things that musically distinguished them from Lite102.9 and K104.7 previously.

I grew up in the northeast where there are a ton of Hot AC's and 107.9 sounds straight up Hot AC to me.

Sorry, but do you guys understand that Hot AC's need to play CURRENTS? From 10 a. m.-Midnight on Friday, the Link played ONE current (Raise Your Glass) - that's one current in FOURTEEN HOURS!!

If the Stone Temple Pilots and stuff bothers you, maybe they should be labeled as "Adult Hits" instead of "AC" - but there's absolutely no way they're "Hot AC" (which is a current-based format)

That is not a typical day for them. It was Probably part of a New Years Retro weekend or something like that. I listen everyday and they play several currents an hour. I do think they need to add more though. They are certainly not "AC" though.

^Oh yeah (whoops...)

I looked at regular weekdays, though, and they play very few songs off the Hot AC chart (only the absolutely most popular ones, that are also big on the AC chart)

I guess I'd call it recurrent/gold-based Hot AC music - I still don't think it's that far off from B98.5/Atlanta, or Majic 106.7/Boston, which are both AC stations

though WKBC was playing music!

I think WKBC is one of those "Your Music Your Station" Hot AC satellites - don't think they have much of a morning show (anywhere in the U. S.)

Speaking of WKBC though, IMO they should try to increase their signal strength throughout Charlotte, since there's now no real Hot AC in the market (or at least no Hot AC that plays new music)

7p-12a is now listed as "Link Music" on the website. Cooper Lawrence is not listed anywhere on there.

So sad to see Greater Media destroy a truly unique station. I can see why Neal Sharpe left when he did.
