As the 1070 FOTW thread is closed, thought I would start a new one on this frequency.
Last night (Wednesday) around 11 p.m., I received KFTI-Wichita, KS.
This was a treat because it was the first time I ever received that station, formerly KFDI, before ownership changes and its move to classic country.
At 10,000 watts days and 1,000 nights, I was lucky to hear it.
Its signal was weak, but heard a Johnny Cash song, Guess Things Happen That Way, from 1959 followed by Ronnie Milsap's "What a Difference You've Made In My Life" from 1977.
Then, in the pre-dawn hours the next a.m, around 6:00 a.m., KNX Los Angeles came in.
I can't say it boomed, but it was very faint and I heard a news report from the all-news station.
This was also a great catch because I rarely hear KNX here in central Texas in the Austin area. I try to rotate my Grunding Yachtboy 400 to null anything else and capture KNX, but, usually, no luck. I believe I've only received KNX twice, which is 2X more than I've received KFI-640, which I've never caught here. The Oklahoma City area sports station, KWPN, plus a Mexican usually dominate that frequency. But, I keep trying.
KFTI, sorry, it's always KFDI to me, has another special meaning to me. My late dad liked country music. In the mid-late 70s and 80s, he would have that station on in his pickup in Great Bend, KS, which was about the outer contour of the station's primary daytime signal. Brings back great memories.
