1070 The Zone

Anybody know where the website for these guys us at? I've been seeing them advertised on the web, but no home site. Out of Indy...

Maybe this ad will shed some light: Link: Indeed.com

It advertises a need for a sports talk host for Emmis-owned "1070 The Zone" in Indianapolis.

Looks like 1070 wont be going by ESPN 1070 when they take over the ESPN Affilliation in 2 months. first time in a while ive seen a sports station in indiana go with a name other than either ESPN, its Calls like WNDE.

other than ESPN owned and operated's most ESPN affilliates have to clear so much of ESPN Shows and or inventory. thats why ESPN 950 airs all but 3 and half hours of ESPN Radio minus sports play by play

I've got a "Zone" that no one dares gets close to....

How freaking unoriginal!

I mean everytime I listen to Colin Cowherd's "Spanning the Globe" whatever city he's talking to he's always referencing something like "780 The Fan in Minneapolis" or 1410 The Zone in Denver.

I would have thought something original would have spewed from Monument Circle.

Then I remembered - this is Indianapolis radio we are talking about here.

Unless they bring in something fresh or can bring back Mark Boyle.

It's just going to be the same old song and dance only on a different frequency and with some legit advertising and then mostly bonus spots from the other three FM's.

Jughead: Radio is usually created for the listeners, not the message board posters! ;D

I think very few radio listeners know that their favorite "Kiss," "Zone," "Fan," "News/Talk," "Q," "Z," "Magic," "X," "Hot," etc. is repeated - if in moniker only - elsewhere in the country, if not the world.

Unoriginal, yes, but also a fact of life.

Emmis owns highly successful WFAN "The Fan" in New York City. Earlier this year, David Hinckley wrote in The New York Daily News that WFAN billed $50.6 million in 2006. I doubt that was "some legit advertising"

I doubt the new 1070am will bill $50.6 million, but my point is that if it works in NYC, it might be worth a try in Indianapolis.

By "legit" I meant advertisers I've actually heard of and don't have to mapquest to get there and that can also afford to buy radio advertising and do it right.

What Would JUGHEAD Do?

If you are going to criticize like that, I assume YOU have some 'original' ideas for sports broadcasting? Enlighten us.

Emmis DID own it...sold it many years ago. But the point remains...Emmis created a cash cow in NYC...it effectively put sports radio in the mainstream. I hope they apply equal support/resources to 1070 here.

Emmis originated "The Fan" so this would be an Emmis original copywright that others have copied.

I'm not the Emmis houseboy but give credit where credit is due. "The Fan" was and is a good positioning statement! Created by Emmis, well Cummings.
