1090 DROPS RANDI RHODES!

WHY!

That was one of her best markets!

Who is going to listen to Norm Goldman over drive time, when they've just finished listening to 3 hours of the same shrill style NOON-3 from Ed Schultz?

Who is Randi Rhodes?

If you already know and are just asking to make a point, this won't come as news to you: Randi is a sometimes foul-mouthed liberal talk host who is alleged to have had substance-abuse problerms. Her very outspoken assessment of Hillary Clinton during the 2008 primany season got Randi in a lot of trouble and may have been responsible for her then syndicator, Air America, ditching her. Of course, being ditched by Air America may actually have been good for her career.

And lest you think that this thumbnail bio comes from a conservative, I am a life-long liberal Democrat who strongly supported then Sen Obama in 2008 (and I strongly support him to this day). I just think that after her outburst against Mrs Clinton at an event sponsored by KKGN in San Francisco during the 2008 primary campaign, Ms Rhodes has no business on the air--at least until she cleans up her act. Maybe she has done that by now; it's been a long time since I have heard her program.

It would be refreshing to get some info on this board about whether or not KPTK management decided to drop her, or if she's gone out of production again. And why. Instead of any snide one-sentence remarks.

Is it also a decision to move Ron Reagan later, for local or national reasons? And then Randi got bumped. I have to admit Goldman's voice and style is hard to distinguish from Ed Schultz. Three hours of that is sufficient.

I personally really enjoyed listenig to Randi for a bit on my drives home from the office - and wished she had a program director who could work with her to have her listen to herself on airchecks so she could hear how she sometimes interacts on interviews and with callers, and to make it a little less of a competition.

She really is one of the sharpest people out there, can turn a phrase on a dime that not's just shooting off her opinion, and is also one of the most well-informed hosts on AM 1090. Her "east coast" style is certainly different from Thom Hartmann, and just what I think KPTK needs in either afternoon drive or the early evenings. She did seem a lot less abrasive to her callers since she went with Clear Channel's distribution earlier this year. She has a problem with insulting her friends, even tho' it can be spot-on sometimes.

So, instead of poking fun and pretending to not know who she is, or, if you don't, informing us on this board that you don't. I'm guessing conservabots who do what their boss man say will probably get agitated just by the idea of a sharp and won't-take-any-crap kind of gal on the public airwaves. Imagine, the scandal of it all! But that doesn't make her something less than human, or having value being on the national airwaves.

But then again, I don't get my paycheck from the Mormon Church or friends of the petroleum industry.

Hey that is unfair. They do very good radio in the markets they own stations, and financially they are doing well unlike Citadel etc.

As for Randi, no, she is not out of production, see her affiliate list on-line.

I'm not Randi's biggest fan, but I never thought of her as foul mouthed - not on the air, anyway. "Foul mouthed" would more accurately describe Mike Malloy. I didn't know you could say those words on the air - calling the ex-President and his friends on Capitol Hill "rat b@$t@rds", "son of a b!+*#es", etc.

KBAI "Progressive Talk 930" from Bellingham is still carrying Randi. You can tune in from noon-3pm after Thom Hartmann's live show.

KBAI, while very good, has the disadvantage of a signal that doesn't get much further south of Acme. Those rocky hills south of Bellingham tend to block the wimpy 1,000 watt signal of KBAI. Unless you're in Bellingham proper, KBAI's signal won't be of much use

What KBAI REALLY needs is a web feed (are you listening Saga?)

NW Honda apparently only wanted to "power" it for KAFE, KGMI (yay?), KPUG and KISM. I hope KAFE's logo update is good. Their current "model" stinks. KBAI only seems to stream online during WWU basketball.

Cascade Radio Group (aka Saga - Bellingham)'s is good, though.

Any FM translators for sale up there ???

Nope. Some Christian and public station translators (in the non-com band mostly), so none appear to be available really. There's a buzz about KGMI applying for one, but nothing concrete yet.

It is possible. But for KBAI, it wouldn't make much difference since even on FM, they wouldn't make it out of Bellingham (translators have to be pretty much within the city it's to serve.)

The only way for KBAI to reach further south is for Saga to go HD for one of their FMs and put it there. When you think about it, wouldn't the FM dial be just a LITTLE less congested if FM stations would just do THAT for their AM stations and/or rent out their unused HD channels instead of clogging up a dial already bursting at the seams with little analog translators? If you spent good money on HD, why not get something out of it? You'll also start to move those warehouses filled with ignored HD radios too.

I don't know if the distribution deal with Clear Channel went south, but XM has also dropped Randi Rhodes on channel 165, replacing her with a Glenn Beck rerun.
Channel 165 is programmed by Clear Channel, and began carrying her program when CC began distributing it.

And even radio nerds like me, who owns two of them purchased years ago 80% off at Target and Best Buy, might actually take them out of the box and plug them in. That is, if I knew where they are located.

I guess you didn't hear what she has been widely quoted as calling Mrs Clinton at the KKGN event in San Francisco during primary season. Even though I was (and still am) a supporter of then-candidate Obama, I was deeply offended and feel that, until Ms Rhodes can demonstrate the she has cleaned up her act (and her private life, to the extent that it impairs her ability to do her job), she has no business on the air.
