1090 kulf

At 1st, I thought it must have been a mistake. However, I am now convinced that this 1KW out of Bellville is operating 24 hours of day, in spite of being a daytime only radio station. I've listened several mornings in a row over the past two weeks, hearing music and commercials. Another station perhaps out of the market? NO. Even though it's in a foreign language, those commercials are spouting a "281" prefix in the copy. Obviously, nobody is there because it's computer is hung on repeating a phrase over and over. I was in the car at 2:30AM; it is now 5:08AM and the situation is the same.

Unless there has been some sort of change that I am unaware of, this station is in violation by operating 24/7.

If so, this is a relatively new development, Chuck. I don't pay much attention to 1090 anymore, but it was off the air at night the last time I checked the dial from our house in Bellville. Sunday marked 3 weeks since we were up there. I'll certainly dial up 1090 next weekend when we're there, to verify it is indeed KULF.

Quite the irony...I used to endlessly fuss that 1090 was always off the air, now it's on when it shouldn't be??

I don't care who owns it. It only matters to me that it was on the air illegally, especially since it is a 2nd adjacency to 1070. My engineer tells me it has a 1 watt post sunset authority. This morning it was not on the air. It could have been a computer failure which could have kept it from powering down at sunset.

I checked it last night, Chuck, albeit from north Houston. No sign of KULF, the dial position was as good as blank. I have personally never heard 1090 at such a miniscule power setting. 1 watt on AM? I have a hard time believing that output would even make it to Hwy. 36. What on earth would they even use 1 watt?

I'll keep an ear out for you, Chuck. If I hear it on, while the stars are twinkling above, I'll be glad to drop you a line and give you the heads up, in case you haven't already beaten me to catching it again.

My engineer just sent this to me: "I contacted them yesterday and asked them to adhere to their licensed hours of operation." Perhaps that may have moved them to do the right thing. Our chief went on to relate: "Their 1 W authorization is a joke. I think it is hilarious the FCC even did the paperwork for a lousy watt.' The only reason I found it is because I am on the road at that time (2:30AM-2:50AM.)

Sad thing is they had a Exband slot created for them (dummy app) and I guess they did not qualify with enough point to get it...though WTAW did)...and we all know how well that experiment worked....
