1090 simulcasting on 1700?

The web site for 1700 says "On air now: XX1090"...
And that's what I'm hearing on the stream.
But the 1700 program schedule doesn't mention the simulcast.
What's up?

Hi Fred, I hope Texas is treating you well. Yep, XEPE has been simulcasting 1090 except for a financial block with Ray Lucia and a couple of brokered shows. Starting Oct. 6, ESPN Radio will be the "home" for the network -- except for the financial block.

XEPE's antenna is near the Tijuana Airport and is 10,000 watts. The station covers San Diego metro; but gets pretty weak near Carlsbad/Oceanside/Escondido area. That's about 50~60 miles north. 10,000 watts at 1700 is not like KOGO's 5,000 watts at AM 600!

I hope that helps, my friend!!

XEPE comes in great here in the Bay Area, sometimes better then XX 1090, Before they were simulcasting XX 1090, they simulcasted 105.7 The Walrus, and I really liked to listen to that at night. I don't get the 1090/1700 simulcast, is it filling a coverage gap? Do the people on 1090 mention that there also on 1700?

Yes, 1700 filled a coverage gap for listeners in the East County, since 1090's signal typically follows the coast. Also, the hosts never mentioned that 1090 programming was also on 1700, other than a list of stations in the newspaper saying who carried Padres games.

Regarding 1090/1700, it's more than just a coverage gap. 1700 is now the ESPN station in San Diego (although they stick with financial programming from 9AM until 2PM), so this allows 1090 to carry live feeds from games on ESPN or alternative sports programming on 1700 when 1090 is otherwise contractually obligated (Padres games, for example). I think it was a smart business move.

Now that 1090 is carrying ESPN overnight, or seems to be, is there another Sporting News outlet on which I can listen to David Stein from 11pm to 3am Pacific? KDUS 1060 in Tempe, AZ, is difficult if not impossible to receive from here.

I looked on their site, and didn't see where they mention who their affiliates are, and sometimes I'm not near a computer when I want to listen. The only reason I mentioned KDUS 1060 is cause I saw it listed at the bottom of a wikipedia Sporting News Radio page, and I've heard the station once or twice when conditions were right.

There is a station in the LA Basin but the signal doesn't make it here. Sorry, I don't know any high power signals from the east or north that carry Sporting News Radio. The only LA station was 1540 KMPC but they opted for Korean language programming in 2007.

I did a search for stations but every one seems dated and not supported by the SNR web site.

What sttion would that be? I can get several L.A..stations here near the southeast corner of 92020 at night, including 570 KLAC, 640 KFI, 670 KIRN, 710 KSPN, 790 KABC, 830 KLAA, 870 KRLA, 930 KHJ, 980 KFWB, 1020 KTNQ, 1070 KNX, 1110 KDIS, 1150 KTLK, 1190 KXMX, 1260 KGIL, 1330 KWKW, 1540 KMPC, 1580 KBLA and 1650 KFOX. As for others, several occasionally make appearances here, but are usually blocked by co-channel interference or IBOC, including 590 kTIE, 610 KAVL (KOGO is west of me so I could null them some, but it's stiill strong), 1230 KYPA, 1280 KfRN, 1300 KAZN, 1370 KWRM, 1390 KLTX, 1430 KMRB, 1460 KTYM and 1480 KVNR.
Is it one of those, or another one?

not a single one, used to be 1540 KMPC. :-(
