11.1 And 13.1 Adding The .3 Sub Channel Killed There signals

11.1 about 2 yrs ago they had a lightening strike that hit there antenna and transmitter power has never been the same

11.1 and 13. both added .3 sub channel since both of these station did not have a lot of power to begin with add the sub channel dropped there signal by like 30%.

No matter what I do with a indoor antenna I can not get a good signal from these 2 stations. Digital TV has been a totally failure channels that where watchable before are not any more I would be ok with a ok picture with a solid signal over a picture that cuts in and out ever 5 to 10 seconds with digital smh. With digital these things will mess your signal

Adding the .3's did nothing to change the signal strength of either station. There is a finite digital bitrate allocated to the broadcast signal, which can be divided up as each station sees fit. That does not change regardless of whether a station is running 10 video streams or only one.

The problem with KHOU and KTRK was their choice of going with VHF channels for their digital signals. UHF seems to do better in the digital realm; I get great OTA reception of the various channels that use UHF (including KPRC on RF35) but I have to fiddle with the indoor antenna to get a decent signal level out of the VHF stations. I'm around 24 miles away from the Missouri City sticks.

And those "things that mess your signal" also affected analog reception back in the day, in the form of video flutter/static/banding/warping/color shifting, etc. But since the signal usually never completely dropped out, you paid less (or no) attention to it.

KHOU actually increased its VHF digital transmitter power (with a directional antenna) several years after the 2009 digital switchover, following reception complaints from viewers.
