This is how I would like to Hear terrestial radio!

http://k-bear101.tripod.com

Basically its just my MP3 collection on shuffle )

But why does it sound so much better than corporate radio???

Kind of reminds me of Kcdx with pop music added in.

Bet your TSL is measured in months! ::)

In spite of it's 98 record playlist, KOOL-FM (coo-fm as BJ Hunter would say) outperforms most oldies stations en los estados unidos! If Nurse Jeff and I had a buck for everytime we heard Brown Eyed Girl on 94~five, we'd buy the station from CBS and pull the song. But then the ratings would tank  And that's what would happen too if any terrestial station had a playlist of 11,400+ songs!

If Im not mistaken, alot of great stations of the past had a very small playlist. WHTZ - Z100 NY, when they launched had only 30 or so songs. WABC had also a very narrow playlist. People only want to hear certain songs in some formats (mainly CHR).

That doesnt mean you can build a radiostation with a bigger playlist, or you should change songs from time to time in an oldies format and leave the wellknown be. Like Brown Eyed Girl ;D

30 songs in a playlist?
That would drive me up a wall.

I listen to the radio at work and I hate hearing the same songs every hour.
thats why I keep hopping all over the dial.

I drive a lot between phoenix and tucson and basically jump between these stations.

92.7-101.1 energy
92.9 The Mountain
93.3 Kdkb
96.9 Mix
98.7 The Peak
99.5 Kiim
100.7 Kslx
102.5 Knix
103.1 Kcdx
103.9 Kedj
104.1 z-104.1
as you can see I love variety, but even then, these stations just don't seem to cut it for me.

there's just not enough variety in radio.

maybe I need sirius or XM?
I really like Kcdx though, you never know what there going to play next.
anyone know where they get there music or who runs that thing?

Anyway's Im going to leave my MP3 collection up and running for anyone that wants to listen.
HELL! I don't even know whats in that thing its so HUGE!

it will be going down in a week or two, because Im moving from west phoenix out to el mirage.
when I get settled in there Im going to set it up on an old computer and just let it run 24/7

maybe someone will find enjoyment in it.

you guys have a great weekend, whats left of it.

Every kid in America, and quite a few older kids, are going to be doing this.

Radio? Left at the bus stop.

Thanks for the music, werebear.

hey Zuma,
Radio will never be replaced by Satellite or internet, we will need local content.
and a way to hear whats actually going on.
like KTAR and there new NEWS station on 92.3.

it's just that these other mediums are a relief from the same old song and dance.
and the competition will improve terrestial radio.

I just wish we had stations, that would really play "Whatever WE WANT" as the peak likes to say.
I wonder how KCDX 103.1 does in ratings?
and do they have less appeal, because there jockless and sound like an Ipod on shuffle?
I actually like a station like that.
if I want talk or news, I flip the dial.
but when I want music, thats all I want to hear.
a little comedy thrown in for good measure, but keep it light on the talking.

another good station, that I really do like is Indie 103.1 out of Santa monica, Ca
had a chance to hear them on vacation and they are really appealing.
http://www.indie1031.fm
and they stream on-line.
I wish we had something like that here in phoenix.
