$11.8 million to serve Lake Havasu?

According to the October 31 issue of Broadcasting & Cable, KRRK in Lake Havasu City is being sold for $11.8 million. This station is on 101.1 and the buyer is listed as Superior Broadcasting (Chris Devine, partner). If I'm not mistaken, Devine has been associated with Three Points Media, the firm that specializes in moving rural stations into the big city. Any ideas on what Devine has up his sleeve? A first local service for Wintersburg?

Yep. Along with the Simmons purchase for 96.7 that moved from Hurricane, UT to Mesquite and is going to put a transmitter in the Vegas area on Apex Mountain, and you have two.

Wouldnt that run into the KPKK CP on 101.1FM / Amargosa Valley, NV?
(site move and upgrade to C3 100KW) Thats only 50 miles out to the NW of Vegas, and if the estimated pattern on Radio-Locater is even close, will have a decent push almost to Boulder City.

Hmmm....when move-ins collide!

I'm sure there won't be any collisions. Tese move-ins are expensive and not done unless there is a high certainty of success. Investors wouldn't participate otherwise. These move-ins generally involve a number of frequency swaps. The B&C article only tells the money story. The engineering story is probably long, drawn out and involves changes to city of license, frequencies and probably adding/removing other allocations to make it happen.

Suffice to say...this WILL become a LV signal. No doubt.

If it's moved closer to LV that could enable KNRJ to move closer to Phoenix. I believe Lake Havasu's 101.1 was the station in the way.

With 100.7 and 101.5 on Phoenix's South Mountain, 101.1 ain't comin' much closer, if anything at all... Short-spacing rules to adjacent and 2nd adjacent channels still need consideration.

It i$ intere$ting, though, to $ee the dance that $ome entitie$ go through to move from the $age and cactu$ to be a rim$hot to a big city...

So there's no question that the new station will cover Las Vegas and not metro Phoenix. And it makes sense to bet $11.8 million that the FCC will approve it.
