1100 and 1610

Earlier this evening, I was hearing something under WTAM- talk radio or some such.
I can't identify anything else that would reach central Virginia...

Right now on 1610, I'm hearing the Spanish CHHA, but there's a much stronger
religicaster, preachin' to the choir on top of it. I can't find any listing that synchs
up. CFOS is still listed in the FCC database on 1610, but it's an oldies station,
and the feed confirms that- not to mention it supposedly moved to 560.

CJWI is supposed to be French. Its website is apparently broken ATM.

Your 1610 catch is most likely the Caribbean Beacon, which broadcasts with 50 kW from the island of Anguilla. The station airs preaching by deceased pastor Gene Scott and (mostly) by his wife, Melissa Scott.

WTAM - or whatever their call letters used to be - used to make it into Texas at night, as far West as Lubbock on ordinary radios. But it has been years since I have been able to get it, even from Dallas and Houston. Too much foreign clutter on the band, and perhaps they are weaker than they used to be like so many clears. And - no - my listening environment is not noisy. I have purged noise makers from the house.

Well, duh, that one's even in my logs. Thank you.

On 1100, it looks like there's exactly one other station on after sunset east of the Mississippi-
a religious station, WTIS Tampa, a booming 150 watts at 720 miles from me.

CFOS is on 560 where it's been for years. CJWI hasn't been on 1610 for about 3 years now. They're now on 1410
