1120AM Last Night

KMOX was off the air late last night for tower maintinance, and I was able to pick up Cuba very clearly on 1120AM in its absence. Did anyone else take advantage of the rare event to DX 1120AM in the Midwest?

I'm not calling you a liar, but do you have any proof that it was a station from Cuba? The reason I ask is that there is a Spanish Station on 1120 who's tower is in Bristol, Connecticut. Its calls are WPRX. They're licensed for 500 watts at night, but have been known on occasion to stay at 1000 watts.

The only Cuban on 1120 is a 5kw repeater in Havana, not one of the mega stations, so I'd doubt it, too.

Don't forget WUST in Washington, DC, which runs a lot of Spanish, and although a daytimer, could have been cheating w/ 20kw.

I'm certainly not a native spanish speaker, but I could make out several mentions of Cuba & Havana, enough to deduce that this was likely of Cuban orgin. Timing was after midnight on Sunday. It was the only thing I was picking up on 1120 in KMOX's absence.

There is a 5 kw Radio Cadena Habana in Artemisia, and on a clear frequency, either of these would be an easy catch, assuming they are operating.

Per the Corazón DX Cuban list:
1120 CMCH, R. Cadena Habana (1/00 NRC)

This means that the last time it was reported in a DX pub was in 2000. There is also a Venezuelan, Ondas del Lago, which has been widely heard in the past... one of the easier YVs to DX, especially on mid-evening openings... even with KMOX on... in much of the Northeast.

Hey, I'm in Memphis and last night I could null out KMOX and get some spanish music station. Only listened for a minute or two so I couldn't tell you what it was. This was around 11 pm CDT.

That sounds like it is most likely the station that I recieved. A likely non-directional 5,000 Watts on a clean channel could easily travel 1500+ Miles. I can pick up the blaster stations fairly regularly, but this is the weakest station from Cuba that I have picked up.
