1130 KTMR

Read where San Antonio has also lost the Biz Radio Network on the Houston board. Our Biz Radio affiliate KGOL 1180 is filling time with instrumentals and jazz music. A nice treat, even though it is temporary. Biz Radio is supposed to return on 03/01, so what is Siga using to fill the airtime on KTMR until then? Has it went back to Spanish Religious? Can't get KTMR at 1130 anymore since they moved from Edna. Only a faint KWKH/Shreveport around here.

Here in San Antonio, as of 5:05 PM, no change. 1130 AM is still running the Biz radio ntwk. Maybe its only a Houston problem?

Houston we have a problem.

Ok ok bad joke, but I just couldn't help myself.

Yeah, 1130AM KTMR is still the same ol' Biz Radio. However, they shut things down just after 6pm, and KWKH-AM 1130 Shreveport, a clear channel station, takes over. It usually comes in loud and clear, like I am actually in Shreveport. When they are not broadcasting Country, they are an affiliate of the LSU Sports Network, so you can catch all the LSU Football, Baseball, and Basketball games, as long as the games start after sunset. They are also an affiliate of the World Champion New Orleans Saints, so this station is a favorite among former Louisianians living in Central and South Texas.

WWL-AM 870 out of New Orleans also carries the Saints and LSU and is one of the most impressive AM stations in the nation in terms of power. You can hear WWL in 38 states during nighttime operation.

That's true, but only whenever that mexican station isn't blasting through on 1130khz with who knows how many gigawatts.

Nah, no gigawatt stations in Mexico. ;)

Most powerful is one in deep central Mexico at Aguascalientes with 30 kw; there are 7 more on 1130. However, Mexico is moving nearly all AMs to FM in a state by state process and most of those on 1130 will be gone.

Yeah you do get a spanish station on 1130 at night sometimes, but for the most part KWKH comes in loud and clear whether you are in Austin or San Antonio.

The strongest AM signal I have seen out of Mexico is 250kw, and that is XEW 900AM in Mexico City. I have never been able to pick it up in Austin, but I have been able to pick up XEG 1050AM out of Monterrey during nighttime operation. XEG goes hard at 150kw.

Shoot, the Mexican 1050 blasts into Houston every night and local KCHN out of Brookshire gets clobbered by XEG without fail. I've heard 1050 as far east as The Triangle. Same can be said with 900 and 1570, two more monsters from south of the border.

XEW has its own problems now with a fulltimer on 900 in Monterrey. I grew up listening to XEG which back then would run English language Gospel programs and had a Fort Worth mailing address. XERF is shadow of its old self. They may be licensed for 250kw, but I believe they're running 50,000 watts at night and maybe 10kw daytime. They're so isolated the 50kw daytime wouldn't cover that many more bodies. San Antonio and Laredo are both more than 100 miles away.

I wonder how far south XEG's coverage extends. I know it goes as far as Queretero during nighttime operation, as I was able to pick it up when I was there a few years ago.

On Wednesday, 03/03/10 @ 1:45- 1:50PM heard a Karnes City station featuring country music and local commercials. I didn't get to listen long enough for a station ID, but checked again later around 6:58-7:00PM and still playing country until the signal was cut at sundown and KWKH crept in. What happened to the BizRadioNtwk and when did 1130 start translating for Karnes City? If 1130 has switched formats, BRN only lasted less than a year. I first heard it on Palm Sunday of last year. Anyone else notice this? What about the Houston station?

I was wondering what Siga was doing with KTMR now. Ever since they moved from Edna, I can't get it. Biz Radio is off in Dallas, and now San Antonio. Houston holds on, but for how long? Houston board has information that Biz is selling KTEK BACK to Salem for about half of the 7.7 mil they paid 2 years ago. Sound investment. Solid plan. That's why he's...the money man.

Targetting Karnes City, huh? That's strange since they are now licensed to Converse. What's the attraction to Karnes City? Converse not Siga's cup of tea?

He may have misheard the calls on 1130 and googled KTNR. KTNR is a small FM on 92.1 licensed to Karnes City. KTMR is the AM 1130 move-in to Converse-San Antonio.

I think KTMR 1130AM is a simulcast of KAML-AM 990 in Karnes City, the only AM station licensed to Karnes City. KTMR is definitely playing country now, and at the station ID I heard something about Karnes City, (which led me to believe it's KAML) and then I also heard Converse on the ID, so that was referring to the KTMR tower, so my guess is that what you would hear on KAML is what you will hear on KTMR. Whatever the case may be, KTMR is no longer Biz Radio.

Ah...a simulcast. Good move, it's cheap until Siga finds someone to rent the station next. KTEK Houston still Bizzin' on...for now.

On the way to the Medical Center this afternoon, I discovered the BixRadio NTWK back on 1130, instead of KAML. When did this happen? I think I heard KAML on 1130 yesterday, but can't really recall.

You are right, 1130 was still simulcasting KAML as of yesterday afternoon. I didn't tune in to check it today, but that is surprising that Biz Radio is back on 1130.
