1134 Croatia

Anyone been hearing this station recently? Last winter it was coming in gangbusters all season, but I haven't heard it this year.
I wonder if they've powered down?

I haven't tried in a couple of months, but when I did try, nothing was there.

May have to do with the increasing sun spot activity.

Could be. I even tried a Global Tuner in the UK and the signal wasn't all that strong.
Of course you never know for sure what kind of antennas some of those rigs use.

About a month ago I had five minutes of good audio from them on 1134, but that was it. Nothing like last year where I could hear them just about every night. This season, 531 Algeria has been the easy target.

I haven't gotten Croatia at all. Last year they were strong almost everynight. Must be conditions.

Was thinking about asking if anyone was hearing TA's lately...haven't noticed the hets for quite a while, like a month or more on any of the usual het freqs: 603, 693, 747, 873, 891, 963, 1053, 1089, 1134, 1215, 1269, 1377, 1422 or 1557. I'm in North-Eastern IL.

Don't know if this means anything or not....

I was in Germany for a few nights in November. First couple of nights, 1134 was all but absent. Third night (IIRC) it was gangbusters. Blasting in like a local and splattering all over the actual local U.S. armed forces outlet on 1143.

Before I was in Germany, I was in London for a couple of nights. I'm not at all sure if Croatia was in the mix on the channel there at all. On previous trips to London (where my daughter lives), it was pretty reliable. Even with a local on semi-adjacent on 1152.

Perhaps they're having "issues".

I think they go off the air during your "golden hour" of TA DX. They used to be 24-7.

The MW band has been quite lately. TA DX has been nothing like last year, although I did bag some interesting ones, that was early in the DX season. :(

On the flip side, SW reception has been pretty good. :)

The sunspot cycle is moving up well off the bottom. Not as good for MW reception.

As we move further into this cycle, conditions will more frequently allow southern stations to be heard. Of course, many of the Southern hemisphere, Caribbean, and Central Americans stations are gone.

With many of the stations between us and South America no longer in the way, I'm hoping we will be able to log a few South Americans. Of course, there are many more domestics on the air, so maybe not.

One thing is for sure, Cuba will be all over the dial.

The Cubans are always part of the mix, even here north of the St. Lawrence River. :D

Listening south, I've logged Mexicans, Colombians & Venezuelans, along with St Kitts, parked on their curious 555 kHz frequency.

It may be my imagination, but I think I'm hearing the Reloj clock tick on more and more frequencies.

Some of the younger DX'ers may not know it, but 'split' frequencies used to be fairly common, particularly in the Caribbean and Central America, making them fairly easy catches. But that was back in the days of vernier tuning dials. You have to wonder how many people on St. Kitts, or anywhere for that matter, can even tune to 555KHZ.

Unless 55/KRC goes off the air some night, I have no chance at my QTH of ever logging St. Kitts. WKRC's transmitter is SE of my house, and directly in the way of St. Kitts.

I am in a good location for nulling WGY.so back when they were on 810KHZ & 250KW, Radio Sutatenza in Columbia used to be an frequent catch for me.
