1150 AM Corpus Christi playing Oldies

I have been listening today to the new 70s/80s based oldies station on 1150 AM in Corpus Christi, actually sounds pretty good, I prefer it to KMXR though it is a jukebox. It is also streaming:

I know that for several years 1150 moved between Talk shows and "Jalapeno Oldies" I think this new format sounds quite a bit better and hopefully will have greater staying power.

A new website has also been put up for the Texacana format on 94.7, not sure how much the format was actually tweaked, I don't tend to listen to this station.

All Access is also speculating about additional news from stations owner Restless Communications.

Ummm...did I miss something here? According to the FCC, Reina Broadcasting, Inc still owns KBSO and Radio KCCT, Inc. still owns KCCT. Both show Manuel Davila as President. I don't even see an LMA filed with the FCC. Where did you see that the stations are now owned by Restless Communications?

I saw the All Access article right now. I thought Scott Holt was at Convergent Broadcasting? When did he make the jump over to KBSO/KCCT? Who is PD at Convergent now?

Unfortunately, I am not up on the goings on behind the scenes in Corpus radio, it was the first time I had heard of Restless as well. I do think 1150 AM's new music format sounds pretty interesting.

There was an article in the Caller Times stating KCCT and KBSO were being operated by Restless Communications. I've never checked to see if a sale has been filed, but I've never seen an LMA on file at the FCC except as a supplemental document with a station sale or as a response to a complaint. At least at one time, LMA's weren't filed with the FCC and were just kept in each station's public inspection file.

They are calling themselves SAM 1150. I assume this is the Automated service? (WW1 IIRC)

No, 1150 SAM-AM is locally programmed just like his older brother, the old JAKE-FM.

i believe he's the same guy that ruined jake fm. it tanked after it's initial launch, i think the music changed too often. and if they're using a copywrited name, it wouldn't surprise me at all. funny s**t.

in fact, i believe this SAM 1150 is just a rip off of the DG SAM. how hard is it to 'rip off' programming from another source?? what a joke!!

SAM is acutally an acronym for Dial-Global's in-house variety hits format ''Simply About Music.'' DG says you don't have to use the name SAM on the air, ''The name SAM is very flexible. So, you can call your station whatever you choose, like The River, The Mountain, Fred…or SAM.''

I doubt DG copyrighted SAM. With all the Jacks, Daves, Herbs, Hanks, Joses, etc out there, a couple of stations were probably already using Sam before DG thought of it.

THAT explains it. Still a mediocre choice IMHO. But to each his own.

Maybe I am imagining things, but I thought I possibly heard an announcement today about a new format Jan. 4. Bet anything it is talk. Big surprise, 1150 has juggled talk formats and shortlived Oldies formats for years.

Local talk shows are now on the station Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Just what is needed, a 3rd conservative talk format on Corpus AM radio. And it probably has the worst signal of any of the 3.

I don't blame them for making this move, as the spot load on the locally programmed music format was incredibly low, they were repeating song orders several mornings in a row at the same time and the internet stream on the website stopped working a ways back.

That's one less station to keep on my presets.

If they were smart they would move the Sam format of late 60s-mid 80s oldies to 94.7 and give the top rated station in the market KMXR a run for their money. KMXR is coasting. Weekdays 8 PM - 5 AM are Mike Harvey off of satellite.

So the first siting of this station running Music was November 16, of 2009 and by December 21st they're flipping again? I have to believe this format was destined to move to the FM they were alledgedly going to get. NO ONE runs a format for 36 days and decides to change without a dramatic shift in the market. That market shift didn't happen.

The idea of going after KMXR is an interesting one. However right now, I have to believe most of what they sell on Badlands FM 94.7 is emotionally based buys. You do Oldies, and you're really going to bring some numbers. You'd have to wonder if the "Sales staff" at 94.7 could actually get those numbers to translate to dollars. Well re-cue the third tier talk...
