1150 AM Tampa Question

While visiting Tampa this weekend (I'm from New Britain, CT), in the vicinity of Dale Mabry Highway, between the Comfort Inn & Suites, down past R.J. Stadium to Kennedy Blvd, I noticed a station on 1150 AM. This station seems to have an adult urban contemporary format and carried the Tom Joyner Morning Show. The signal was also decent over at Tampa International Airport (TPA).

Has this station had the format very long? Where I live, we used to have a 5,000 watt station called JAMZ 910. They played a good deal of hip hop and adult U.C. music and carried "The Countdown" on the weekend. Once Hartford got their first hip hop/R & B station on FM in 2001 (WZMX Hartford, a.k.a. HOT 93.7), this New Britain-licensed station died a quick death and flipped to Spanish a few months later. The closest thing we have to it here now is Yale's WYBC-FM 94.3 of New Haven. It's strictly an adult U.C. station and also carries Tom Joyner in the morning. Their signal is so-so at best about 30 miles north of New Haven.

Here's a summary of the history of WTMP; basically the format and call letters have been the same since they took on the WTMP call letters in 1956; the format has of course been tweaked and fine tuned; but no major changes; and during it's haydays in the 1950's , 1960 and early 1970's they were strictly a daytimer.
