Maybe that's one of the special shows they have on weekends. But that would have been on the weekend.
Who would want to buy it? They couldn't sell 50,000 watt WAGL out of Lancaster so it went dead.
I don't think you can compare WAGL with WAVO. First I don't believe Tom Gentry or GHB Broadcasting was ever involved with WAGL. It 'went dead' as you say because of a number of reasons.
WAGL was on a full clear channel which meant they were daytime only. This month they would have had to sign off at 5:30PM. That means no high school sports or other night time programming that small town stations depend on. Running 50KW costs a lot of power bill money even when only running daytime. And the reason I believe it met its demise was the passing of the long time owner. The family more than likely decided to sell the real estate which meant the end for WAGL.
Now hindsight being what it is maybe they should have applied for an expanded band frequency. That would have allowed them to run 24 hours a day. That would have made it more valuable for a future buyer. If they could have held on then they could have either purchased a translator or applied for one in the latest auction. It would have been good it they had tried to merge with WLCM before it went dark. I am guessing it died due to the real estate being too valuable as well....
