1160's automation is in need of work. The station has a poor sound during Imus in the Morning for a couple of reasons. When the statio goes from low power to full power, it seems to take forever to transfer over leaving static dead air. Very unprofessional sound; however, this most likely can't be helped due to limited financial and technical resources. The other is just sloppy automation that CAN be helped. 1160 runs CBS News at the top of the hour which is great, but they should only run the first five minutes as the news story cuts out in the middle to go to Imus. A promo should be run to fill the time for better sound quality. Also, stop joining Imus in progress coming out of the bottom of the hour break. Sounds very sloppy! This is a top 10 market, not a bottom 10 market, you need to sound great!!!

I guess the main reason is the ground conductivity around here is so poor, and 1160 is not as good a frequency as the lower ones. But I would have expected 50,000 to produce a somewhat better day signal.

granted with any directional system there are areas that are poor. Why they are directional in the first place is interesting, There is no station in AL on 1160:

I can only guess WGOW 1150 Chattanooga squeezes them to the northwest and WXKO 1150 Fort Valley GA. squeezed them to the south.
With the investment in the 4 towers you would think Salem would figure out more nighttime power going east or south east. Salem has 50 KW at night in Chicago at night on 1160 and still protects KSL in Salt Lake. WTEL Red Springs NC is only 500 watts at night and WJFJ is 500 watt directional but should not have any coverage south of Greenville SC.

He took breaks when he wanted and local board ops had to hit the buttons. His last hour was often 80% commercials due to all the breaks he failed to take in the first few hours. But I guess now that he's simulcast on Fox Business Channel, he has to take breaks according to a schedule.
I'm also glad to hear WCFO runs CBS News on the hour. But you're right that they should take only the first 3 minutes of news and the following minute of network commercials, then just run their own 60 second commercial before returning to Imus. Most CBS-owned stations only carry the first four minutes. It's pretty sloppy to hear the network newscast dumped in mid-story to go back to Imus.

Well, I did look up zip code for North Atlanta at www.usps.com and here's what it gave me...
NORTH ATLANTA GA 30319
So the US Post Office still recognizes North Atlanta for a Zip Code. And I guess that's enough for a COL.
The Mount Washington Post Office is a small booth in the lodge for folks who drive up to or take the cog railway to the top of the mountain. So if you buy some post cards in the gift shop, you can have them post-marked Mount Washington. But that's enough to give WHOM a city of license.

I think COL's in ID's are sometimes ridiculous. I realize 94.1 was once in Smyrna and 101.5 was in Marietta. But at this point, why not let them just ID as Atlanta?

Gregg, to answer your question, yes, there ironically still is a North Atlanta post office in the USPS database, which should be renamed the Brookhaven location since it's on Dresden Dr. Here's another thing ironic about the post office location. It's further east of Brookhaven's city center, and it ought to actually be renamed the DeKalb/Peachtree Airport post office because it's just west of both the airport and Clairmont Rd. Anyway, that is all.
