1170/1180

Just for the Record...

I noticed today that the former WPLX/1170 is now on 1180. I assume this means that the transmitter is now across the river @ 5 kW daytime. It's also licensed for a handful of Watts at night; but here in GT I won't here them, considering the nighttime CCI (Cuba, mostly) on 1180.

A quick check of FCC Records shows that the transfer to Pollack has just been consummated. So, expect a change soon?

Yes, the station is under program test authority. Just got the proof certified after installation of the phasing gear. The day transmitter is a Continental 316F, a Doherty circuit.....I had to replace a burned interplate inductor and the station is ready for licensing.

The night transmitter is an Energy Onix Pulsar 250. It is used for 26 watts at night and I have it set up to run 200 watts as an aux transmitter in the Critical Hours and Day patterns. This is the transmitter that I was running most of the time during testing of the array. The day transmitter wasnt on much because I worked at the site mostly at night and I did not leave it on unattended in the day. So you were probably hearing WPLX at 200 watts.

So what's been happening with the transition to 1180? I've been working in Bartlett at times over the past couple of months, and from what I can tell nothing is on at either frequency.

After reading his blog a situation many years ago 1430 comes to mind. Anyone remember that? Who was behind that one?

I think someone had to clip the feed line out to the tower to take them off the air or is that an urban legend?

Palmer never shared his WPLX pr0n with us. I would love to see some pics of the new transmitter site.

Palmer Has been busy taking care of transmitter maintenance for EMF, Pollack, EAB, Withers, Anderson, TCT, FOX and a few stragglers here and there. I just repaired the WYPL transmitter Friday 5/14/2010......and im a single parent of two children: a teenage daughter that just reached driving age and a ten year old son that wants to go fishing....It is Storm Season!!!!!!! I promise to post the Pr0n soon! LOL

I read the CA last Saturday morning on WYPL and we readers thought the signal sounded stronger during the breaks while listening off air. Hope that's true. Thanks for the work!

Hey thanks for the signal report. That station has some really nice gear and I enjoy working there.

Every time they have a meltdown they talk to me about a regular maintenance contract and schedule but once the station is back on they never mention it again until the next technical crisis. I would love to dress up the audio. But the good lord knows I have enough work load anyway....take care and call if you need me.

Here's another 1180 question: K-LOVE's translator at 96.7 was a part of the sale back to Pollack as well. Will it be rebroadcasting 1180's signal?

I'll admit that a blues format is probably a good move, but it would have been better without Thaddeus.  ::)

WPLX was originally licensed to Collierville.
Years ago it was moved to Germantown while the station was MOR/Big Band.

The COL was changed to Turrell for the upgrade and TX relocation. This to replaces the K-Love 94.7 signal that is moving North. That move allows 94.9 to upgrade and move into the city from between Byhalia and Collierville.
