1170 AM Lexington

Does anybody know what's up (or not up) with this property? The FCC shows that it was transferred to BB&T on 3-26. That can't be good. I have noticed the carrier on a couple of times but with no audio. Monday morning they were on, tracking an adult standards cd. The address listed on Devine St. turns out to be an attorney.

They had LMA'd it out to an organization of some kind that was doing black gospel for awhile. But I hadn't tuned into the station in months.

I don't like to see a frequency going to waste but I guess there's not much value in this property and/or signal. I mean, really, what would anyone do now with a daytime-only AM signal but LMA it out?

Yeah, I thought of that right after my post. You'd have to mount quite a marketing campaign to get noticed and sampled. Hard to do since 1)it would be expensive 2) it's old media. very old. Even FM is going to be passe if owners/operators/the NAB/and it's reps don't move soon to catch up with the rest of the world.

Its possible to do well if you have a translator with a decent coverage area and the programming is right. But the electricity bill for the AM facility will kill you.

They were on all day yesterday, tracking various CD's, I think. On again this morning doing the same. This leads me to believe something's going on ,otherwise why would they be on so much just to keep the license active? I know I'm probably the only person who cares about this.... ;)

AM radio stations today are way over valuedand or priced for today's economy. In some areas AM radio stations probly still have great value and I am sure this is true but lets face it if you ask most people in the general public which radio stations they listen to you have to go way down the list to find an AM that people listen to. A lot of us on the radio forums still listen for different reasons, grew up with it, favorite talk show, let me see can I pull this one in or how's the weather effecting AM band openings, my favorite let's see what's on The Grand Ol Opery this weekend. Still this is not the normal general public that listens to radio, most of them don't even know if AM radio still works on their radio, sad but true.

I haven't checked with a radio, but the WQVA Receiver filed an STA to take it silent. Most likely pending transfer to and disposition by the bank.
