1170 WSOS St. Augustine Beach

According to the STA on file with the FCC, this station is supposedly silent due to a dispute with the owner of the transmitter site. The owner of the transmitter site appears to be Renda Broadcasting.

What's the real story on WSOS?

They are probably just waiting for Seve Kingston to buy WSOS!

That's very droll... ::) but I would be far more interested in knowing what's really going on. Is the dispute over unpaid rent? Or some other issue? Does the FM use the AM tower as an Aux site?

At one time WSOS-AM 1170 Saint Augustine Beach and WSOS-FM 94.1 Fruit Cove were co-owned under the same ownership. When Renda Broadcasting acquired WSOS-FM from Westshore Broadcasting, Inc., apparently Renda also purchased the commonly shared AM-FM tower since WSOS-FM was still licensed to and serving Saint Augustine at the time. I don't know the logistics behind the WSOS-AM STA to remain silent, but my best cognitive hypothesis would be WSOS-AM is off the air due to financial reasons since AM 1170 has had a sporatic operating schedule for many years for this very reason.

I hope they don't turn in 1170's license to boost 1160's signal. 1170 had a nice stereo signal at one time (which I have recordings of). The signal has always been weak tho. As WKLN it ran 830 watts. Now I think it's down to 710 watts.
