1180 AM nighttime upgrade

KGOL has been granted program test authority following completion of their upgrade. As many posters here may recall, this was the quintessential "Lazarus" construction permit, having been revived (and revised) from a 1987 application that lay dormant for the better part of two decades. The final version was approved by the FCC in 2009.

The upgrade raises KGOL's nighttime power from 1,000 to 3,000 watts, still with a rather complex pattern from a four-tower array. Signal reports, anyone?

Does 1180 have a problem with Cuban radio interference at night? We have an 1180 here in Jackson, Ms and the interference is so bad that they had to get a nighttime-only FM signal in order to be heard in Jackson.

Could not hear ANYTHING here at my location (Hillcroft/Richmond)
this morning approx 2am.

Old Chicago

Generally speaking, for an AM to achieve even a 25% increase in it's coverage; it has to quadruple it's output power. This thing is located in an area of poor ground conductivity, and it has never been able to put 1 mV/m over Humble, it's COL at night. This increase may get it into Humble and maybe even Northeast Houston. But, the pattern is a narrow beam in that general direction. And, the nighttime skywave is still going to beat them up pretty good most everywhere else.
