119 Words

Randy Michaels list of 119 words/phrases should be posted in every radio or TV studio. All these worn out crutches and catch phrases are just that...worn out, trite, and often stupid. There is one, however, not on his list that needs to go away "At the end of the day". Now "going forward" what do you think? We'll be right back!

I could probably use 120 expletives that would never make it on the air or past the moderators here to describe Randy Michaels.

Maybe not newcasters, since there are so few and the ones remaining have a lot on their plates at the end of the day. Used to be , one could think outside the box and survive paradigm shifts, but that is just so lame anyway------whatever ! On that note, it is what it is and it's all good!

On the Chicago board where this started, one poster mentions there should be a similar list regarding commercial copy. Being an old guy the lack of quality controls we have in both radio and TV amazes me. On one of our Tampa TV newscasts on November 4 the anchor leads with "It's been one year since Barack Obama took office". Of course most of us know that the president "takes office" in January. On another newscast the "on scene" reporter points to a swimming pool and says "you need not look FURTHER than that pool". How many times have you seen or heard a commerical that is outdated? Far too many. Commercial copy with needless wording. "Been serving Pasco County since 1959". Kudos to Michaels for a return to quality control.

Sitting here in the mountains I see the "foilage" returning to the trees..hearing the WiFi radio I get to enjoy music that picks me up and makes me feel good..with more variety..sometimes when the commercials play I hear how one company has everything for my heating and air conditioning needs, at rock bottom doorbuster pricing..and still another has a staff of experts ready to serve me. Quite flattering, but just as I settle into hear more about how I can get out of debt with just one easy phone call, an amiable announcer tells me that we get back to the music faster with less talk in stereo..on FM. I hope there is not a "nuculer" war to interrupt my fun.
