1190 AM

It's pretty common knowledge in the market that 1190 AM is available for a lease or for the right price, purchase.

So...if you own the Ticket, why wouldn't you lease it or just buy it and put the Ticket on one big strong signal like 1190...the daytime 50,000 watts is a flamethrower and granted the nighttime pattern leaves a lot to be desired, but outside of nighttime football games, what does the Ticket really have to offer at night anyway? Their bread and butter is 6a - 7p.

The other up-side would be opening up all those frequencies they're patching the market with the Ticket's signal with...

Why wouldn't that be a smart move?

Well 1190 appears to have lots of power issues. I went by there several times this week during the day and noticed that they were broadcasting at their night-time power. I noticed this a lot during the Cowboy 1190 days as well. Are they just saving electricity or is there some kind of issue?

Ahhh do tell, HOW did you NOTICE they were broadcasting at their night time "power"? They have a totally different night SITE....kinda hard to tell during the day what "power" they are running..the night site covers ok during the day and if the day site was on lower power, you hardly would notice it....Went by there??? Went by WHERE? Studio? Day site? Night site? (somehow I doubt it..you cannot get into either without the right keys and I DOUBT CC is gonna let just anyone in) I think a little explanation is in order........or your statement makes no sense.

1190 would not help the Ticket at all. 1310's weakness is to the north, and 1190 has no nighttime signal to the north at all.
Other than that it's a great idea.

Both 1190 and KKDA AM (who's sites are within a couple miles of each other) were hit by copper thieves lately. 1190 had ALL the ground radials from all 4 towers removed from its day site. They've been running from their night location while they've been repairing the day site. I believe the day is back functioning now (or will be tomorrow) - but that's why it's been weak lately.

I live in Fort Worth and the signal is weak over here whenever they are on their night-time towers. It sounds like it does right before they power up for the day.

Ahh so you didnt go BY the station....you live in Ft Worth and just noticed the signal was down...MUCH different than what you originally posted.

Considering how muddy (wet/nasty,etc) that day site is, someone must have been REALLY desperate to dig up all that muddy copper wire!! OUCH!!!
These damn thieves are getting bold....the RF current flowing on the radials could burn at 50kw!!! Surprised some fried body wasnt found......they need what I found at THAT site 7 yrs ago..my watchdog :) A true RF dog...never gets close to anything that hums, etc.....and for a BIG 90lb Rott Shepherd mix, he's been around tower sites plenty of times....but NOONE dares comes into the yard when he is outside....and noone would get away alive if they try to break in.....he knows the 1190 day site quite well (and also the night site...he marked every doghouse out there)

My dad always thought the best watch dog for a large ranch or similar area would be Dobermans or Rotts who are mute or had vocal cords damaged....No sound....just....... SURPRISE!!!

Okay a couple of things- I don't remember the exact figure, but isn't something like 90-95% of the population in the Dallas/Tarrant/Denton/Collin/Rockwall county area? So why a 50kw flamethrower would extend the signal, how much do they pick up with that new signal? In other words, how many Sportsfans are there in a city with a population of 1 million, like dallas, and how many in Gun Barrell city, population a couple of grand (maybe?)

The Ticket appears to be wildly succesful with a crappy signal. They're #1 M25-54, top 2 or 3 or so P25-54, one of the top billers in the market, etc.

Any idea what 1190 is asking? I saw the 50K a month figure here a couple days back- I guess the question for someone who'd know more about sales is could the ticket, by increasing their signal to what I believe Rhyner refers to as 'the outlying outposts' bill another 600K a year?

And then I'll ask the same question I raised when somebody suggesting putting the ticket on 93.3.
What do you do with the other signal? If you move KTCk to 1190, what do you do with 1310? What format are we missing on AM (assuming that music (like smooth jazz) wouldn't work on AM) that you could slot into 1310. Then what do you do with 104.1, a signal that's unintelligible south of 635?

And then would CC really lease it to the competition? Why make it easier for them to beat you (CC)?

Night time Dallas Cowboys and Desperadoes games would be affected. But again, KTCK is making over 24 million dollars on 1310...if it ain't broke, dont fix it.

Did they switch from music to TV sound so they don't have to pay music licensing fees?

Anyway, if they're going to do TV sound, I think CNBC would be better than Headline News. At least you'd get a lot less of "look at this video..." CNBC's morning Squawk Box is a really good business show, imo.

Slightly off topic, but the audio quality of Biz Radio 1110 is really bad.

CNBC's audio isn't offered up for syndication yet. I doubt it would have any more success in the marketplace than CNN, Biz Radio, EWTN or any of the other long form radio providers out there.

Yeah it is on Sirius, I tune in more frequently on my commute to listen to the latest excuses for high oil prices.

The stealing copper ground radials thing is a new low, nothing is sacred these days. One of my friends came to church & found that the air conditioners had been vandalized with 6k of damage. All copper was stolen.

Doesn't CNN provide a "radio version" of their CNN Headline News?...is this what we're hearing?
Plus, a suggestion. Why not do a deal with Metro and have them at least do some local headlines in and around the CNN programming. That would provide at least a little something "local" to make it more interesting. This could be done with a little effort and made to sound a bit more dynamic.
Plus, it is apparent someone has spent a bunch of money on a billboard (maybe that was a trade), so why not use their own air to promote what they're doing.
I've said it many times - radio stations should be their own best advertiser - use your air to promote yourself.

Why not just put KLIF out of its misery and put The Ticket on 570? Or buy KSKY from Salem, which, apparently, is going to sell a bunch of its AM news/talkers?
