Steve Eberhart said:I am always amused by these comments that suggest "1190" is not successful because it has a poor night pattern.
First, remember this is the same pattern at night that used to command 70% of the audience....pattern didn't seem to be an issue back then, when they had something worth listening to on it.
Second, AM stations utilizing a talk format don't typically get much listening at night even with a massive pattern.
Third, the day pattern is still awesome, 50,000 watts that will penetrate most any building within 60 miles of the towers.
So...the point is, yes, the night pattern leaves much to be desired, but the day pattern is on par with KRLD and WBAP. Put something on it that people are willing to listen to and it could be successful.
How about True Oldies Channel from Scott Shannon?...

dfaulkner said:The story of KLIF's night pattern is covered well in Steve Eberhart's History of KLIF website http://www.historyofklif.com/ I think the growth of the northern suburbs was basically unforseen in the late 1960's when the 12 tower bay used for 1190's night pattern was under construction. It went on the air in 1970, I believe.

The sports show at 2pm Saturday's are a couple of younger guys cutting their teeth, there's a golf show Sunday that isn't half bad...funny how the only shows there that don't pay to play are the best and burried weekends.
...and best by potential...the guys on Saturday could end up honing their craft and going across town to the ticket and doing weekends there someday

Still beating the 1190 sports show drum
I have a feeling Metroneck's opinion would change if somehow JCW was on 1190.
I appreciate those on the board who are honest about who they are.
