1190 for sale, again

Apparently Spanish N/T doesn't work... big surprise. It doesn't work in LA; why would it work in Phx and Denver.

Anyone have any of the Deestails?

What's a radio station worth now, particularly an AM station, given declines in younger listeners and ad revenue? Not just 1190, but any AM or FM station. Won't the land the sticks are on be worth more than the radio stations in another 3-5 years???

If you can believe it or not, THIS happens to be the front page news of AZ Central this morning. For anyone who's interested...

We can believe it, Listener Lauren....The Arizona Socialist Republic has always had a soft spot in it's bleeding liberal heart for "undocumented workers". But if you read through all their crap in the opening paragraphs, you'll discover that at one time KNUV had a staff of 45 on the payroll. YIKES! A pretty big number for a marginal AM station that competes with a ton of other Spanish language stations on both AM and FM. And contrary to what Mayor Phlash Gordon's aide told the McRepublic, the loss of KNUV will NOT leave a void in the community (see previous sentence). Nurse Jeff and I predict a sales price in the in the 2+ million range for 11~Ninety as the market get it's 38th colon-blow station!

I'm hoping for another religious station. After reading the Arizona Repulsive, I feel unclean and in need of saving. ;)

The demise of the station and its Denver sister station has more to do with the death of the founder of the company than with immigration issues, despite what the local fish wrapper provider has to say. Really, if there is anything strange here, it is the newspaper article, which comes from a parallel universe.

As a rule, illegal immigrants do not fill in diaries. They are not anxious to reveal their address, phone, familiy size, income level, etc., as would be obvious to anyone except an agenda-driven print reporter. Any listenership for this station would be reported by legal immigrants, residents and citizens of Hispanic heritage, not illgals and migrants.

Here is a non-copyright statement right from the licensee's website... turns out this is partly a Cumulus station...

NEW RADIO VENTURE HISTORY

Visionaries Maria Elena Llansa and Heberto Limas-Villers created the programming concept that would take form in New Radio Venture after a failed attempt to buy Radio Unica in 2003.

In 2004 they partnered with Susquehanna Media to create New Radio Venture (“NRV”). Susquehanna Media was at the time the 11th largest Radio Company in the country and was lead by Dave Kennedy and Pete Brubaker.

The company started operating in January of 2005. In August 29, 2005, NRV launched the broadcast of their first station, La Buena Onda 1190AM located in Phoenix, AZ. NRV selected Phoenix mainly for it has a large Latino population that didn’t have a station that would assist them with their needs.

Unfortunately for the NRV family, Maria Elena Llansa dies tragically on December 10, 2005. This event not only brought the NRV family closer but it made them more determined to see her dream come true.

In January 12, 2006, NRV launched their second station, La Buena Onda 1150AM located in Denver, CO. Due to its strategic geographic location, NRV selected Denver to be the location for its headquarters as well.

In May 2006, Susquehanna Media is sold to Cumulus Media Partners. In consequence NRV becomes an affiliate of Cumulus Media, the third largest radio company in the country.

RV has started actively to seek the acquisition of other stations in large Latino markets.

By the way, talk does work, but it takes a lot more than what this station was doing. KTNQ in LA managed to get high in the Top 10 25-54 in the late 90's with an expensive but effective local format... even tied KFI in 25-54.

I am an illegal alien. I recently lied to a telephone solicitor and received 6 diaries in the mail. This was in June. I won't tell you how much money they sent because that would give away what I told them my racial status is.
It was tough filling the information out because I had to make each one look different. I switched from left hand to right and changed pens.
The station mentioned here (1190) I had never even heard of before reading about it here this morning so don't expect an increase in their Spring numbers when they're released.
Here's an idea: rather than let this station simply go off the air, why not sell it to the MCSO and let them use it as an entertainment device for their deputies out on patrol? Joe could even do his own morning show! Now that I would listen to!

Well, by deduction, you would have to have said "Black" since that is the only race Arbitron has specific recruit and proprotionality specifications for.

You could have, in theory, made as much just saying there were 6 18-24 men in a dorm; you would have gotten the same incentive.

Sheriff Joe gets enough airtime as it is, plus he's got K~Joe blasting away 24/7 at all his jails. By going dark the owners of KNUV cut just about all their operating expenses and get offers quicker for the sale. While the night pattern is margainable at best, the daytime coverage is good enough for some serious colon-blowing http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=KNUV&service=AM&status=L&hours=D

Yes, I remember running into part-time employees on two different occassions in just my everyday life. Seemed like they got paid to do not much of anything. It was very interesting, and David could comment more from a programming angle than I could, but it seemed odd to have them talk about six guys hosting a two-hour weekend show about "anything".

Let me check the couch cushions.. no.

I looked at my budget... if I stop driving an SUV and cutback on my cable... (Nothing good on HBO these days anyway) I might be able to swing it...

In all honesty, when engineered right, that is a solid city grade signal.

It's the KXAM of the West Valley if you think about it...
