A FEW THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS NEW FORMAT:

1. EAT YOUR HEART OUT 95.3 THE RANGE.
2. THE MUSIC LIBRARY THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE IS GOING TO BE BIGGER THATN ALL THE OTHER COUNTRY STATIONS WE HAVE AROUND HERE.
3. ANY THOUGHTS OF A MORNING SHOW? I HAVE ONE BUT I DON'T THINK IT WILL WORK UNLESS THE RANGE DUMPS STEVE HARMON, IS I LIKE TO SEE THE RETURN OF HARMON & EVANS.
4. ANY OTHER THOUGHTS OR IDEAS ON JOCKS THAT MIGHT FIT THIS STATION??

I think classic county would work on 1190 if...

1) Stop dumping songs out for the traffic/weather report!!!
2) Too many repeats from the same artist. Yesterday I heard two Brooks and Dunn songs played in the same hour.
3) (Unless they are going the KTHT Houston no-jock route) Hire live jocks, at least during drive time, but keep the emphisis on lots and lots of music.
4) Spend some money on billboards and promote the station.
5) Do and spend anything to improve the night signal.
6) The biggest one... Have a owner that cares...1190 hasnt had one since McLendon owned it. Otherwise I can see 1190 in the near future winding up another talk/religious/ethinic AM station.

Amen on the repeats. Enough already of Alabama, Bellamy Bros, Kenny and whoever. How about some 70's and early and late 80's and early 90's. I jocked country 25 years and the crossover stuff I have a problem with.
How about country jocks that know the music like the KLIF jocks of old? A good jock will be able to sell music like Faron Young, all the Hanks, Mel Street and Tillis, and daughter Pam.
Also Patty Loveless, Mark Chestnutt, etc.
Do like hearing ALL of the old Strait music, plus I'd like to hear Waylon's Dreaming My Dreams and Honky Tonk Heroes albums, but, again, NOT EVERY DAY!!!
I hope what they are doing is: just playing fill until they get their ducks in a row with jocks and with 50 years of country music, play the traditional cuts and have enough of them so they don't repeat so much.
If it's a 300 song playlist, it won't last.
Also, there are a ton of instrumentals from bluegrass to Jr. Brown, Doc Watson and traditionals that I long to hear.
Management: Are you listening?
Thanks for letting me rant.

I used to work in Country radio in the 80's-early 90's and that stuff almost killed country music off for good until the "New Traditionalist" movement saved it.

I think thats why the Classic Country format has flopped. There are way too many crossover hits from the "Urban Cowboy" era. Dump most of that pop mush and play the hardcore country instead, the twangier the better.

If First does that, I will be surprised - it's just another placeholder format for First to run with until somebody buys 1190.

Management...drop the price and sell 1190 and 1160!!

If you ever listen to KKUS in Tyler this station will sound just like it. I think this will be a good classic country station because we needed a format like this ever since Sunny 95, just give them time they will play Jr. Brown, Doc Watson etc. They also have a phone number you can call to request your 3 favorite songs. The number is (214) 220-1190.

I live in Kilgore, and though most of East Texas radio sucks, the Ranch is a highlight. All live and local (except for nights and weekends when they run Jones Radio Classic Hit Country) and the great Tom Perryman doing midays. His kind of folksy small town radio would never be allowed on DFW airwaves!

It's a shame nobody in Dallas radio wants have the guts to put on a station like the Ranch. Classic Country may never be a big ratings buster, but they can build up a loyal following of listeners and advertisers that keep the station profitable. (Like KAAM does)

Ditto for rock radio - Dallas and Houston radio listeners would KILL to have a active rocker that sounds as good as Shreveport's 99-X...
