12:06 pm major announcement 1510?

Tune in to The Diehards today at 12:06 for a major announcement!--\
tweet from NBC Sports 1510 Boston

Yeah could just be a contest or whatever but, way to get us curious. For Pete's sake, I wonder
what they mean. What kind of big show might they be planning? ::)

Or maybe midday? Supposedly they have a hole 2-4 pm or maybe later...Again we can only speculate. Often such announcements are for contests (* cough * Easy 99.1). Two WEEI
ex-employees might well be a part of it, or only one of them--brokered? Money Matters got
Graham back on with a four station network, brokered, and I think the Santos hour being carried
on three of the same four may also have been Money Matters brokered time. Might they also
do the same with G.O. or the Meat? Or maybe the Andlemans are coming back somehow (rest.
show)?

WUFC definitely doesn't get the ratings 98.5 or 93.7 do but this seems like a half decent operation
in that they offer an alternative to the big guys, have shows from 2 diff networks plus local
content, the Sox en espanol, nifty banners & logos & web presence--1510 may not be huge
but the sports format seems to be part of a longterm plan. They gotta be making some bucks. It's not like they're suddenly
bringing back brokered Santos or going to ethnic or True Oldies or whatever. Yes there's a sports network glut but newcomers CBS (Cumulus) and NBC (Dial Global) seem committed to getting
their shows, and ad buys, on....

With their names now being "NBC Sports Radio" they should disregard "Yahoo Sports Radio" and put that on "WEEI" so they can have that on overnights
I don't know if you all noticed, but "ESPN Radio" "Sports Center All Night" isn't really (all night) They host one hour, and the rest of the night, that first and only hour rotates all night
soo

WEEI admittedly has a deal with ESPN and can run that on the AM; maybe ESPN also wants it to be on the FM (and they have other stations in other parts of New England) too. NBC is full time I think but maybe Yahoo couldn't get on 93.7 or 98.5 and is getting at least partial clearance via 1510.

Anyway maybe the deal WEEI has with ESPN requires them to be carried on the FM overnight etc.

you must live here 24/7 :) ?

Actually no but I try to be on top of things--having a smartphone helps. I'm delaying my lunch (eating out) so I can cover whatever big announcement is coming :) C'mon 1510, I'm hungry

--Played last night's national anthem, now Pepe is on...

"We were teasing major announcement...radio stations usually do it on Thu because that's the diary day, usually it's for a contest, but for sports or reg talk radio, it's more for the industry. Anybody in industry listening right now?"

"I make my announcements on Sat night"--is that PETE?
Yes Pete
"We're very excited --start next week Mon thru Fri 3-6 pm"
He said he feels bad about his friends stuck at "the other place" and likes 1510's atmosphere, etc
"A sense of family here. It really is refreshing./"

via Boston Radio Watch @bostonradio:
New 1510's local schedule as of Mon : 6-8a Sports Stamp,8am-10a Danny Picard, 12-3pm Diehards,3-6pm(or 6:30pm on game nights) Pete Sheppard

I wonder if the new boss approves of the way Pete treated the old boss. Any chance he was in on it? I would think that Pete could have ripped WEEI on the new station and not added that "quit on the air" credential to his resume.

How does a deal like this work? Does he get a contract? Is he on probation ala Kevin Winter? Their ratings are already pretty low, so he's probably safe on that front for a while.

Actually, these are all somewhat moot points for me, because I can barely hear 1510 out here in West Boylston. I'll give him a try in the car.

I know things aren't that rosey over at EEI right now, but to leave a station like that to go to one with several recent format and programming changes, to me seems to be career suicide. I wish him the best.

I find it unusual for a major market 50kw station to be putting its rate card online. Is this becoming a more common practice? This is the first I've seen of something like this. No sales staff? (GM listed as sales contact) And those rates??

It's a low budget station Pepe is pretty much the whole station.

Thank you, that explains a lot! I only hope Shep gets paid on time, and the check clears! :)

What makes you think Shep is getting paid? 1510 is a brokered operation. Shep could be the one paying them.

After all....we're talking about a station with no sales staff that has to resort to posting its' ad rate card online. ;)

Definitely "food for thought!" Wonder what the arrangement is?
