12: Dead air

After the NFL game and a few commercials, 12 aired a few national? commercials, an awkward 1 minute + of dead air, then 4 minutes of commercials before joining NBC and Dateline? at 9:42.

Why so much dead air and commercials? I would have filled the 18 inconsequential minutes of time after the game with an extended 10pm newscast personally (if that much preemption were not a concern).

12 also had some dead air in the 5:59 PM local break between Nightly and the NFL game,
but joined the network for the TOH, so perhaps one or more spots are now make-goods.

Maybe they freaked out, as normally they go from playback server (Nightly) to local studio,
whereas here it was server/program...to (different?) server/station break...to network.

And have you noticed the hideous weather graphics Mc12 has been using lately?

How long does it take to get the regular WX computer moved to the "financially troubled"
downtown building, hook it back up, and fiber-optic the output back to Central & Roosevelt
(Central & Portland, actually)--site of all those useless "live just to be live" live shots?
Or is that not a feasible option?

I was wondering about those. There's an insignia of "CN" in a serif on the title bars. Central Newspapers?

As far as I can tell, 12 is back to their normal weather graphics now. James just did an update at 12:59pm with normal graphics. The temporary graphics were courtesy of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism (12 actually did their weather there for a couple of weeks during the move).

The "CN" means Cronkite News.
