Can someone tell me what has happened.....I've been out of the market for a while and all of a sudden
RNS isn't #1, The Beat and Hot are gone, We now have a Party and Will is working....This is bizarro radio

Go to www.radioandrecords.com and click under "ratings", you will see the latest
numbers...
To give you my assessment, WRNS has lost some of their luster in the last few
books, it's no surprise WIKS(aka "Kiss 102")is at the top, but the biggest
surprise was the rise of WSFL to #3, and almost doubling what they had in
the last book.
Other stations that saw gains were WERO, with WNCT-FM, WMGV, and WXNR
holding steady.
There are four stations that should consider a format change...WRHD/WRHT
which switched from CHR to Country(why?) and WQSL/WQZL, which in five
books have gone from a 5.2 to a 1.9, with their highest rating coming during
the time they had a "Urban" format.
Because of so many radio outlets competiting, no one in the Greenville/New
Bern/Washington Market may ever achieve the numbers they want, but there
are some like the ones mentioned above who ought to think about trying
something else.
Since Henry Hinton and Don Curtis run Inner Banks Media and WRHD/WRHT,
i think they should have tried a "SuperTalk" format since both owners have
ties to talk stations like WNCT-AM and WPTF.
As for NextMedia's WQSL/WQZL, even though they have a "CHR" in place at
WERO, they ought to try a "Urban AC" format which could slightly erode the
numbers from WIKS and become something similar to "Foxy 107/104" in the
Raleigh/Durham Market.
We shall see if they mull these decisions.
