12 News goes live at 8

News at 8pm? On a Saturday? It's happening at channel Mc12 and "Arizona's News Headquarters", where Kim and Caribe are giving a special report on the Wallow fire. This is probably an attempt to hold over viewers from the Stanley Cup Final, which ended in the 11-second overtime (seriously) and a Vancouver home win.

•Didn't know that 12 has a spot on its weather maps for Rocky Point. Kinda interesting. Did the «turismo» department call up Mc12 News?
•There was even Bruce Cooper on sports, with Diamondbacks, the Stanley Cup Finals, the Mercury, a Spain-USA soccer friendly (surprise!), and French Open tennis.
•In the short D-block, there was a short report on the Horseshoe Two and Murphy fires. The E-block closed the newscast with a final brief weather piece.

Overall...a nice, complete fire-focused newscast. It replaced what was listed as "paid programming".

I was debating on starting a new topic but will just expand on the discussion of the fire in Northeast Arizona. I have been really impressed with Channel 15 having one of their lead anchor up on the scene. Katie Raml is doing a good job. I am impressed Channel 15 is investing in the resources of having her up there. Does anyone know when they send crews to locations outside of the Valley of the Sun do they spend the night or commute home each night? Any ideas? I'm sure it depends on the instance and distance.

Marc Martinez was up on scene yesterday for the fire but had to return to anchor solo on Saturday. I have to imagine that with Linda Williams being the 2nd senior employee, that is visible, of FOX 10 that she has a boatload of vacation after being there since 1981. That is dedication to a station. She must really love Channel 10.

I caught 12 News at 8 and was generally impressed with this primetime newscast. Earlier, I watched 3TV and thought they did a wonderful job at 5 with Frank Camacho anchoring and five or six fire-related live reports. Honestly, I thought it was a better 30 minute newscast than 12 News at 8. I missed ABC 15 News with Katie at the fire scene -- I'll try to catch them tomorrow.

Apparently Mc12 did not know how to spell the name of the town next to Springerville on its fire maps...it is EAGAR not "Eager" :

And what the heck was KOOL KTSP KSAZ channel 10's problem at 7 PM on Saturday?

First up, they took what probably was Fox's Mountain zone feed as the open to AMW
came up for a few seconds.

Then they JIPped what was obviously an old Cops rerun from the station's collection.
After it's first break they "jump-cutted" to their playback server for that evening's episode
(in progress), also going in and out of HD mode several times. Some of the local spots in
the "real" first break had just run a few minutes before.

Did channel 10 forget to record the first x-number of minutes of the show at either 5:00
(ET/CT feed) or 6:00 (MT feed)?

On Sunday night, Mc12 News could even spell "Outlook" correctly. They spelled it "Outllook" and it stayed on the screen for at least 3 minutes.
