Among the outlets are WLUC-Marquette, Mi and KTVO, Ottumwa, Iowa - both of which were owned in the 60s by Post Corp. of Appleton, WI, and they've pretty much stayed together through ownership changes since then.

And WLUC is marking its 50th anniversary this year and has a nice little history section right here.

Dammit. They need to sell WTOC here in Savannah. 7th grade morning news shows have better production values than this station and for a station that's an affiliate of the #1 network to *hate* the network with which they're affiliated is just sad.

You should see KCBD TV "NewsChannel 11," the NBC affiliate here in Lubbock that Raycom acquired in the Liberty sale! They have two aging anchors, and a news set that looks like it was put together by a Video Productions 101 class. And, everytime they put up a graphic, they get this horrible sync glitch (sometimes, a whole sync roll). And yet, in 8 years, they've done nothing but claim to be the number 1 newscast, number 1 statin, and how they're lead anchors have been there for 25 years, blah blah. I wonder how they're liking things now that NBC is dead last?

Don't get me wrong, they have a solid no-nonsense approach to the news (unlike the "kids" who work accross town). But with production values like these, I'd rather watch a test pattern.

I was looking at the list, and I was wondering why WFXL/Albany, GA was on the list. I figured out that Raycom got WALB in Albany as part of the Liberty deal. Since WALB (NBC) and WFXL (Fox) are the only network-affiliated stations in the market, the FCC would frown upon Raycom owning both of those stations.

I don't know if Raycom presently has any other conflicts of this kind.

They did in Wilmington, NC. They owned WWAY-3 and WECT-6, and I think control WSFX-26 (leaving WILM-LP 10 as the only other station). They sold WWAY a few months ago separately I think.

Perhaps an ownership change would do something for the look
of WTOC's news, but if they "hate" CBS (whatever that means),
why don't they change affiliations? I'm sure ABC would grab
WTOC in a minute, since it would mean a move from Ch. 22 to
Ch. 11.

No they wouldn't.

I say this because Savannah isn't exactly a Top 25 market (In fact, I don't believe it's even a Top 50 market). True, it's close to the Atlanta DMA, but still...

ABC isn't the type of network that jumps as these chances just for the heck of it.

That said though, where ABC *could've* made a move BUT DROPPED THE BALL is in St. Louis when KPLR 11 first learned they would be losing The WB. ABC could've pulled a fast one by luring KPLR away from The CW, forcing them to sign with KDNL 30 instead (ABC probably could've broken the agreement they still have with KDNL without any legal repercussions had they done it right).

OTOH....With most HDTV channels being on UHF, it's probably a moot point anyway since TV will soon be going all digital anyway.

Just my opinion :)

Cheers :)

Raycom is going to be doing well with the #1 stations in Albany, Montgomery, and Columbus. I wonder if there will be more sharing of resources between the news departments of the stations. WALB, WSFA, and WTVM have a lot of overlap in their coverage areas.

I must not be following something, KPLR is owned by Tribune. Why would the Tribune NOT affilate with CW. Plus in the mid 90s when it wasn't owned by Tribune KPLR scorned ABC attempts to affiliate with Channel 11.

Perhaps so, but what's to stop WTOC from initiating talks
about a switch? Granted, realistically I think such a switch
has about as much chance as a snowball you-know-where, but
ABC wouldn't necessarily have to approach WTOC. And anyway,
what does all this mean, that WTOC "hates" CBS?

A friend of mine who worked at WTOC a few years ago in the video/TV promo department told me that he was creating potential promos for the station one day and several of them had the famous CBS logo in them. When these promos were shown to WTOC General Manager William Cathcart, Cathcart flipped out, screaming, "Get that damn thing out of there!"

Here's a list of the stations sold

KTVO Kirksville, MO; Channel 3 (ABC)--199

The way I heard it is that Barrington is essentially the old Benedek under a new name. If that's really the case, I can't imagine it being very good. Benedek had a horrible reputation.
